How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Planned and unplanned networking…

the former did not work out while the latter did by mistake!

Before Cheng left for home, she thought she could make it for Nik Nazmi’s Networking with some young Keadilan leaders but realized her flight was scheduled to arrive at 5.25pm when the event was supposed to be from 5.00 to 8.00 pm. Actually, we could have made it because the plane touched down half an hour early!

While waiting, we saw one of PM’s relatives, being a VIP, came out of the lounge at 5.20pm…very fast checkout indeed if he was in the same flight. When asked later, Cheng said there must have been a VIP because she saw a couple of guys with ‘Pelawat VIP’ tags helping to retrieve bags from the carousel. SP, being KPI (Kay Por Inquisitive), tried to find out what car he uses. It was a Merc ‘R’ much in vogue these days among the well heeled. She pointed out to me that the lady could not wait for a smoke while the others got into the car.

Anyway, Cheng said that she got to know Anil Netto’s sister who presented a paper at the housing conference in Glasgow a few days ago. Being Malaysians, they got to chat and mentioned about bloggers, which was how her well known brother’s name was mentioned. But, all the time, Cheng mistook Anil for David, the latter whom I know personally! Well, at least they got to know each other!

I mentioned about Professor Woo Wing Thye’s seminar mentioned in Teresa Kok’s site and Cheng said she had met him in Maastricht, and was in a way keen on attending, but I had just found out that it was over, held on September 4!
