How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

A really pleasant surprise

though not totally unexpected.

This morning, my wife felt the effects of her travels and was late for work, not because of my birthday as she did not wish me anyway. While she was around, I got a couple of phone calls from the phone shop girls asking whether I would be going over and even suggested 12 noon. I knew it has to do with my birthday, but not sure what they were up to.

I was told later, that when they requested for the name to be written, the owner of the bakery (my friend) asked, why 'Kosong'? He even asked if for a man, and whether he is married! I thought he knew about my blogging, but maybe he did not know the name or did not occur to him that a 'laeng lui' would order one for me! For their kind gesture, I ordered a couple of pizzas and had a nice time with lots of laughter, making up for my children's absence.

My son actually wished me hours before my birthday, at a UK airport on his way to Mallorca, while Cheng wished me as soon as she woke up in Amsterdam. I am expecting Nee to call from Aberdeen soon.

I have also just realized why I got extra wishes on this year's birthday. On Facebook, a niece wished me. Then just now, her brother wished me by text too. After I thanked him, he replied that I should celebrate with his new addition next year! Yes of course, he and wife have chosen October 10! How eventful this year, I thought to myself.

Hi Bayi! Thanks a lot for your kind wishes...you have yet to meet me, let alone see me up
close...looks can be deceiving. I may look young from a distance. But I must admit, I feel young, maybe because of the pop music and mixing around and able to communicate with the younger generation.

We cannot escape from the description 'senior citizen' and being called 'uncle' by hawkers of my age or even older, but fortunately, I have yet to be called 'ah pek'! Very soon I guess.
