How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

1Malaysia? Money comes from Barisan?

With this kind of narrow mentality, 1Malaysia will never succeed without a real change for the better.

Please bear in mind, the taxpayers in Selangor are likely to be the biggest contributors to the national income. Whichever party voted by the people to administer the state should have more say in distribution within the state, rather than the federal government. The present arrangement sucks because almost every federal minister would attempt to bypass the opposition controlled states at every opportunity...all the more reason for voting out the present federal government.

Why would the federal government wants to be in control of finances? From what we have seen over the 52 years, kickbacks seem to be the order of the day.

Reduce Federal aid to Pakatan state govts, go straight to rakyat

[...] Abdul Shukur said the Pakatan Rakyat-ruled Selangor government gave RM1,000 to finance funeral arrangements to the people in the state while Umno provided RM300.

“The state government also provided RM1,500 to the elderly. The people in the state are talking about the opposition government giving aid to the people.

“Little do the people know that what the opposition government is giving comes from the Barisan Nasional Federal government,” he claimed when debating the president’s policy speech at the Umno General Assembly here on Friday. - + selanjutnya
