How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Beneath the layer of santan on kuih talam

Talam Corp Bhd, which is now known as Trinity Corp Bhd, had been the subject of the so-called 'Rm1 billion scandal' expose by Chua Tee Yong, with wide publicity over television channels and screaming from the front page of The Star. TV3 showed the same footage of Chua's press conference, even after explanations by Dr. Dzulkefly and Tony Pua, and even after Chua himself reduced the amount to Rm42 million alleged to have been overpaid by Selangor government. For this, Tony had in fact criticized Chua for having selected pieces of land which were overvalued but left out those which were undervalued. The net effect, in fact, showed Selangor had underpaid!

I, for one, am put off by the way our mainstream media had manipulated by being selective in their news content - highlighting lies for maximum damage to opposition parties and their leaders, and refusing to show any explanation offered. That this was successful I can testify, from friends who watch television news and read newspapers (all controlled by BN) and who do not surf the internet for alternative news. They believe completely the mainstream news and seem incredulous when told of the explanations which are ignored completely by the msm.

But they can fool some people some of the time, or even most of the time, but not all the people all of the time. I wonder how the television newsreaders feel when reading such news, or newspaper editors and columnists feel when putting together such misinformation. I wonder how a qualified accountant like Tee Yong feels when trying to pull a fast one despite ample proof of the successful restructuring of Talam and collection of debts which were not even recognized during BN's watch! He is losing credibility as an accountant for being politically motivated in this misinformation.

Talam for Dummies

Excerpt:

"Facts trump hype - again

How can we summarise this? For more than a decade under BN, one corporation owed the state hundreds of millions of ringgits.

Within a year or two of taking over, Khalid managed to collect on these debts, instantly increasing the amount of money available to spend on welfare programmes throughout Selangor.

Scandal?

Yes, it’s a scandal that Talam was allowed to get the free lunch it did under BN, and it’s a scandal it took this long to create the change in government that succeeded in cleaning up the mess..."
