Procedures on canopy fixing onto 4x4 pickups

This is based on first hand trial and error experience, the choice of which was even by chance! Just imagine seeing something I like and searched the internet for it. Ipoh sales rep could offer only one dealer which did not have the type we wanted. A veterinarian surgeon's mistake concerning small window opening helped us to make up our mind to reject what were on offer here.

My internet search based on the image I had seen led us to discover by chance, the only canopy made from galvanized steel instead of fibreglass. To view more pictures, I even joined as the third fan of Sammitr on Facebook! Just to show how much the lack of information relating to canopies.

The actual installation in KL actually took 3 hours instead of 2, apparently because our Manual model does not have ready holes as in the Auto model. The dealer, Mohan, re-assured me that he would apply to the technical department of JPJ in Putrajaya for a letter (3 copies) which would require me to go to Puspakom for inspection (Rm50 fee) and then to take the vehicle registration card to be endorsed at JPJ. Out of the 3 copies, 1 goes to Puspakom, 1 goes to JPJ together with the inspection certificate of approval, and 1 retained by owner. The 'mystic' of the letter from technical department has led to other dealers charging Rm250 extra for it!

Being new, we made the first mistake of not having the original registration card for Puspakom inspection. Fortunately, the bank was quite near to its location. Despite opinion to the contrary, the bank would insist that I return the card to them after use. At the JPJ, photocopies of NRIC (front and back on same page) are necessary and the convenience of having it done next to the reception by JPJ staff (even at 40 sen) was better than having to go out looking for a shop offering such services.

I must say the Police based at the Puspakom branch in Ipoh seem very helpful towards people who are new to it. But I saw how the requirement of taking rubber linings of car doors to check for 'welded half-cuts' in other vehicles unnecessary, much to owners' complaints noted elsewhere. The requirement to have inspection for canopies seem unnecessary too, judging from the pre-occupation with the noting of chassis and engine numbers as formalities instead of the canopy itself. I cannot help thinking it is another way of adding revenue more than anything else.
