has better description... like Talent acquisition or something similar.
We are used to applying for employment but for more senior positions, the employers are more interested in looking round for suitable candidates. In any industry, the top few key players are well known and a boss with deep pockets and willing to get the best would use middlemen to approach the right person with offers which he is unlikely to refuse. The middlemen are loosely called headhunters, unlike the old Sarawakian type who actually collected skulls of people they hunted, because they take the initiative of going for the right person instead of waiting for those who applied for positions.
When a person leaves an organization, be it by resignation or given the boot, it is advisable not to criticize openly the organization because I have yet to come across anyone who came out looking good.
Having observed the political system of our country, the good, the bad and the ugly of our politicians, I have come to the conclusion that to aspiring wannabes, let the leaders come to you instead of trying to get their attention. If one is truly outstanding in certain qualities which a party's leader is looking for, he will approach you.
But then again, there are certain overtures which are frowned upon by the public, like for examples, those being approached for the purpose of power grabbing in a state by unscrupulous politicians. You can give all sorts of reasons (read excuses) for leaving a party under which banner you stood in the elections, most people would not give you the benefit of the doubt. In fact, they would think you have taken them for a ride for cheating them of their votes.
However, though it may seem contradictory, I still believe there is a big difference between opportunists jumping from one party to another obviously more powerful one, especially the incumbent ruling party, and those switching allegiance at a time when the situation is becoming untenable, like when there is obviously a breakdown in law and order.
