How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Why Batu Gajah residents dislike the new train station...

This is one of the signs at the new station and it gives the impression that the Don'ts outnumber the Dos!

You cannot smoke, eat or drink; cannot throw rubbish; cannot stick chewing gum; cannot stick bills, cannot bring dangerous materials; cannot bring animals; cannot bring bicycles; cannot bring cargo; cannot play music; cannot beg; and cannot hang around!

Except for the obvious Don'ts relating to rubbish, chewing gum, bills, dangerous materials, and begging, the others seem obvious to make this modern rail station clean and sterile, and unwelcome to visitors. The multi-million Ringgit building appears to be for ticketing, boarding and getting off, and nothing else!

Without some little shops, nobody would bother going there except for boarding the train or for picking up friends or relatives due to arrive. Last night, I was there at 8.30pm to fetch my wife arriving at 8.45pm. I met a friend who said the place just lighted up, earlier it was dark! One surprising comment from some of those who supported my Petition online was the concern over security! A number actually would take the trouble (at night) to go to Ipoh instead to prevent untoward incidents! This includes those who would leave the car at the station. Ipoh station is around 20 km away compared with new BG station which is 2 km from the main road (not walkable, has to take taxi or rely on someone's transport). I still cannot get over people preferring to go 20km rather than 2 km, but it reflected badly on the secluded, insecure (even if only perception) and out of the way location of the new station of Batu Gajah.
