In Malaysia, dinner functions organized by opposition parties are specifically required to apply for police permits before they can be held. Applications need to specify who are the main guests before approval is given, and this implies no surprise dinner speakers. Why the fear of some speakers? I can only think of insecurity of the leaders because all speeches are recorded to see if they are seditious and there are ample laws which can be relied upon to prevent any abuse. So, what we see in the video was a clear act of provocation by the police, maybe hoping that someone might do something silly to be charged for a major offence.
Anwar's daughter, YB Nurul Izzah made a wise decision in diffusing a tense situation which could easily turned ugly, thereby falling into the trap laid by the powers that be. 'You can eat at a dinner but cannot talk, ok?' seems to be the byline of the police.
