This morning I set off again for KL, with wife, Cheng and her best friend. Promised a sister-in-law that we would try and send her mattress to her son's house in PJ. It was a tight squeeze even after folding it, with the canopy door open partially. I tried to be optimistic and hope that I don't have to deal with the police or JPJ.
My son has arranged with my nephew and his family to have dinner with us at a steamboat buffet restaurant in Sunway Mentari. It was chosen through surfing the net, which was surprising considering we were quite familiar with KL and PJ. It was fortunate that he booked a table for 6.30pm because when we arrived few minutes after, there was already a small crowd waiting outside for their turn. The fact that it was a halal restaurant, I noticed some Malays too, waiting to break fast there. To be honest, I felt uncomfortable knowing that the people outside could see us through the glass partitions, and the fact that it was a steamboat buffet meant much longer time to turnover. Sure enough, by the time we finished, it was almost 9.00 pm!
My nephew came back from London for his elder son's wedding. He was the one who was at Heathrow when my youngest went on her first trip to study. He was also at the convocation when she got her Masters, so there is some special affinity among our families. Then, there is the adorable Jun who is best known for having met Queen Elizabeth as a baby! After dinner, we adjourned to my son's house in Section 14, PJ. We really had a good time chatting about all sorts since all of us have a good sense of humour.
William related to us some of his experience as a warden in an old folks home. One 89-year old lady used to ask him in Cantonese, 'What day is it today?' When he replied, 'Today is Saturday' she would continue, 'So tomorrow is Sunday' and walked away. After ten minutes or so, she would come back and ask the same question and reply in the same manner. Then there is a demented old lady who lives in the basement. One day, she went to the first floor and found an unlocked room, went in and took off all her clothes to hang at the window. The guy had to ask another woman to tell her to put on her clothes and to get out of his room!
My son related his story about sending two pomeloes to his girl friend's house. He was holding a pomelo in each hand and when her father saw him, actually told him that he is not interested thinking he was one of those sales persons trying to sell all kinds from door to door!
I told him of my pomelo experience. After finishing college, a few classmates joined me to visit a fellow classmate in Ipoh. Her house was in Tambun and they had a pomelo farm at the back. I got some pomeloes from her. On our way back on the trunk road, there was a sign showing to turn right to go to Batu Gajah. My friends encouraged me to go and visit my girl friend's family though she was still in UK. I met her eldest sister for the first time and gave her one or two pomeloes. I was to find out later how she was so excited for having met her sister's boyfriend!
