How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Common sense approach to deal with a fake medium

I chanced upon the article below, because of its unusual title, and more so, in a site like Loyarburok where we would expect mainly legal discourse.

Luang Pu Mee Chai

June Low's experience reminds me of my encounter with a 'mun mai' (Cantonese for a medium who can communicate with spirits, especially of ancestors) when a niece's in-laws wanted to find out more about their late mother and a brother.

My niece heard about this 'Pak Yee' (white clothed) medium in Ipoh and we sourced out the place and telephone numbers for her to make an appointment.

On the appointed day, we went together but we sat outside a fenced enclosure where we could see and hear what was going on.

The medium asked many questions but I could tell they were meant to source information. When asked questions, she tended to be evasive like, 'I do not talk about those who did not come', 'this session is so important that every family member should attend', etc. After much questions which did not elicit satisfactory answers, my niece's sister-in-law posed a question about her eldest brother. The answer given by the medium was so obvious that she did not know that he died some time ago! What was expected was some connection between the dead mother and her dead son, but there was none at all!
