We first heard about this huge reclamation project a few years ago. As usual, we had our skepticism and wonder whether it is going to be successful.
Before this, we had been through Damai Laut's launch and subsequent progress (not entirely inspiring, especially with the shelving of some water theme park) and so on. It takes more than a few years before any new place start to really attract the crowds, and these are limited to peak seasons of school holidays, end of year and corporate outings.
Since our first visit, and a couple of subsequent visits, Marina Island Resort seems to have quickened its development lately. Each time, we could see new developments of purpose built buildings like the jetty.
It was rather embarrassing once we were there at the clubhouse (before the jetty and surrounding buildings were completed). The road leading to it was temporary and we just wandered around. We saw some cars parked outside the premises which included a Mercedes R series. Chatted with a couple of staff and was told they have been operating for more than a year already. Anyway, I asked if it was Ding Kong Ling's project (as in the listed company on Bursa Saham Malaysia) and the staff said yes, Dato is here, pointing to a group of people having their meals in a tent. It would appear that I was caught name-dropping without actually knowing the person himself! Anyway, for the lastest news...
