When I least expected, I was pleasantly surprised when Editor of The Sun replied to my email which expressed my hope that my petition to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd could do with some publicity. Mr. Chong Cheng Hai actually wrote to advise me that I should write to The Sun so that he could publish my letter and hopefully, get the necessary publicity. Because others did not bother, his letter stood out and he had gained my respect for his kind gesture. The fact that I am a nobody makes his gesture all the more worthy of a mention in my humble blog.
I can understand that Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen are very busy people, especially with their constituency service to maintain, more so if they are also involved in Parliamentary committees or as a member of a State Executive Council. But being busy to the extent of not responding to questions (mundane and unimportant they might have been) asked in Facebook, for example, show the lack of respect and courtesy to so-called 'Friends' which they have accepted. For very busy representatives, they have enough assistants to look after ordinary questions posed by the public. So there is no excuse unless it was sheer arrogance having been elected. Some politicians are known to show their face come election time only.
Most blogsites allow comments, though some out of necessity require moderation before publishing them. Unless your comments are mischievous, malicious or bordering on being seditious which can get the blogger into trouble, any attempt at not publishing is tantamount to restricting the freedom of expression. By not allowing comments which might be unfavourable to the blogger's points of view is inexcusable. Of course the blogger reserves the right to do so but this would discourage any further comment from the person snubbed in this manner. 'Why bother?' must have crossed his mind. Sounds familiar to anyone?
