How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Lourdes, the village of St. Bernadette

A friend sent me a link to a site featuring oldies from the fifties till the eighties. Went into the site and at random, clicked 60-64 and the first tune was Alker Bilk's clarinet version of Stranger on the Shore. As I scrolled downwards, I found Andy Williams' The Village of St. Bernadette. Just curious, I clicked and found it was a song I have heard over and over again, more than 40 years ago, without bothering to find out the title!

What caught my attention was St. Bernadette, the name of the school in Batu Gajah where my two daughters studied and when I acted as chauffeur for a number of years. The sentimental part of it is still strong and fresh in my mind and each time I go to Pusing or Ipoh, I have to pass the school. The song also mentioned Ave Maria which is the name of another school in Ipoh where an old ex-classmate attended, so did a cousin of my girls. Lourdes is the name of a small medical centre in Jalan Ipoh, opposite the Sentul Police Station, K.L. where a former classmate is a doctor there. An old song can bring back so much memories!
