How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

DAP's AK47 aiming at P080 Raub, Pahang

Dato Ariff Sabri is better known as blogger Sakmongkol AK47:

'Sakmongkol AK47 is the nom de guerre of this blogger. His name is Dato' Mohd.Ariff Sabri bin Hj. Abdul Aziz. He was ADUN of Pulau Manis, Pekan.( 2004-2008) From 2000-2004, he was Ketua Penerangan UMNO Bahagian Pekan, under Dato Sri Najib. Studied Economics at University Malaya and University of Manchester(Owens). Sakmongkol was a legendary Muay Thai fighter. AK 47 is the Russian made firearm...'

Since his candidacy for Parliamentary seat Raub has been announced, many supporters of Pakatan Rakyat have welcomed it. The person likely to be worried is the incumbent MP of Raub, Dr. Ng Yen Yen, that is, if she is going to stand again, in Raub. Her likely opponent has all the advantages of being an ex-ADUN of Pahang, an ex-Umno Pekan Division info chief, who had served under (of all persons) Najib before, and knows most of the truth behind the pretence of public statements. For instance...

'When I was ADUN, deficit budgets have been incurred probably for the last 13 or 14 years. Suddenly, Pahang achieved a balance budget. Surely that would have raised alarm bells of suspicion. If I were in the Dewan, I would have raised the issue, maybe in subdued terms but no less critical and candid, but will raise it anyway.

I would immediately suspect the figures have been massaged so as to show financial prudence on the part of the state government and a desire to show the public, we can achieve balance budget.

True enough I was later dismayed to hear, the state government asked for approval of a supplementary budget to ask more money and asked for approval of a bill allowing the state government to borrow directly from banks and financial institutions. Why was the supplementary budget necessary had the original budget been carefully planned to achieve a balance budget? Why was a bill approved to confer to the state government authority to borrow directly from banks and financial institutions?'
