How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Daughter back for ex-classmate's wedding

It is a small world indeed.

A year ago, my son set off from KL by car with a colleague, to supervise their company's booth at an education fair in PISA, Penang. I can still remember how we arranged to meet him for lunch in Penang: we travelled from Batu Gajah! At the booth, we were introduced to a newly qualified pilot who happened to be from BG. I was told some of them actually flew their small planes from Langkawi to Penang and it worked out cheaper than if they were to travel by car!

In Facebook, this pilot is a friend of my son. His bride today happens to be my younger daughter's former classmate and is her friend in FB. Not sure if it was in groom's or bride's wall, my daughter passed a comment. My son was surprised she knew his friend's fiance! They knew each other since schooldays and my daughter had met him at a tuition centre before. My daughter did not know brother knows him too! Having seen bride's photo in FB, I can recall having seen her many times, running out with a friend from the school compound, passed my car to be first to get into her school bus!

To us, it is nice to have daughter back for a visit, for whatever reason. Our older daughter has already booked her flight back this December because she will be bridesmaid to her best friend in school who is getting married the traditional way next January. Incidentally, she was also the match-maker and is expecting a 'gold pig' for her role. My own marriage was match-made by a former TAR College classmate. So it appears match-making is still common, though in a different form.
