I know it is too late now that Bersih and the planned march have both been outlawed and everyone taking part stands to get himself or herself arrested. I know much have been said, written and commented, so there is nothing new or interesting to add. But I still cannot get over the defeatist attitude of the Police, because by banning the coalition and the march, it is not going to solve the problems which started it, and the Police have in a way, admitted that they are unable to control a planned march for two hours! It does not make sense at all, unless there are other reasons best known to the powers-that-be.
Ambiga has already said she is open to any suggestion on the route to the palace (sorry, if it seems like a takeover of the palace as some would like us to think, but just to hand over a memorandum). The police can announce to the public the agreed route and that whether anybody would be allowed to pass through would depend on the response, on a 'first-come, first served' basis. It is no use if the route is already jam-packed. All vehicles are advised to avoid the agreed route with the police on hand to divert traffic to other roads. Since there has been so much publicity, those who are afraid of getting caught in traffic jams or caught among huge crowds should and would have stayed away. The time given of two hours should be publicized and the police can take action after the time is up.
If the police wants to be seen to be independent and fair, anybody else, especially those openly linked to Perkasa and Umno Youth should be prevented from joining the march. They should have one if they like on another day.
