Common sense tells us that we have abundant rainfall and sunshine which could be used for our own purposes, and any excess, sold to our neighbours.
At present, we have water uncollected and/or wasted, whereas Singapore used technology to recycle even waste water to potable water, as well as sea water to fresh water. I am sure they are doing so for strategic purpose ie. in case Malaysia turns off its tap after the agreements expired. Why can't we, if the financial need arises, sell water to Singapore at market prices then which could be lower than their costs of recycling? I am sure natural water tastes better and they will be more than willing to pay for it.
We should have but didn't, but we could make use of our sunshine to obtain solar energy to complement our electricity production. Again, when the time comes, this should be considered.
We have plenty of sand and earth which could be used for reclamation and which Singapore needs badly. Why can't we sell them what they need instead of banning the sale? Again, when time comes, we should do this instead of having to borrow for the purpose of public expenditure.
We should not forget that we could save an awful lot, if only the leaders do not spend unwisely on wasteful projects.
