How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

All it takes is only a Minister's intervention...

Mother's tears pays off with citizenship for girl

The persistent Chong Yen Foong, 45, who went all the way to the Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre to see Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in October, is now shedding tears of joy.

“I met the minister at 6pm on that day and at 7pm, I received a call from his press secretary to enquire about my daughter Vivien Wong’s application.

“Her citizenship application was approved in less than a month, thanks to Hishammuddin,” she told reporters after a luncheon hosted by the minister to present citizenship to applicants yesterday.

Chong, who had been sobbing when she made her appeal to Hishammuddin, was thankful to the minister for taking a genuine interest in her case and delivering on his promise to find a solution.

As my late mother used to say when someone helped her in a moment of disability, "How many times can you help me like this?" As an analogy, what comes to mind on the mother and daughter's good news, how many cases can Hishamuddin approve personally? Remember once on the front page of The Star he was pictured with boxes of documents waiting for attention?
