How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

TVB's Cold Blood Warm Heart: Lap framed Pong

In the usual cops and robbers story, the characters get intertwined in the course of carrying out their duties or criminal activities. Presumably that was how Yip Seng got to know Tsui Kin and became bosom friends.

Cheong, felt being sidelined and looked down upon by his father as compared with his elder brother, Kei who is a capable CEO in the family bank. He got involved in drug dealings to get rich quick and in the process started a chain of events which were to eventually destroy both Yip Seng's and Tsui Kin's families.

Cheong made use of the police chief as partner in crime. In the course of duties, Lap got to know Cheong's involvement in drug deals. Lap took advantage of an earlier opportunity in helping his daughter, Grace and for letting off Cheong, to gain his confidence. They became partners in their drug deals. But the police chief did not like Lap who insisted on a bigger share than allotted.

Meanwhile, Pong lost his pistol in the course of his work. Somehow, it was found to have been used in criminal activities and it was now in the hands of the police chief. Lap's dispute with his chief over their drug deal was agreed to be settled with an exchange of the money he took, for the gun. Pong knew about Lap's problem with their chief but did not know about the criminal side of the story. Pong went to his chief's residence to resolve the issue but instead ended in a heated quarrel just before the chief was due to meet Lap at a secluded place.

At the meeting with his chief, Lap used Pong's missing pistol to kill him. This vital evidence, together with other incriminating evidence like the quarrel which was witnessed by the chief's wife and Pong's medical prescription found at the scene, led to Pong's murder charge and conviction. This premeditated murder which was framed on Pong shows the ruthless side of Lap which have yet to be known to any member of his family. Even Pong was convinced that he is a good brother and when put to him, would not believe Lap is capable of such ruthlessness. Each time, when in doubt, Lap was able to convince Pong they are good brothers and he will look after him whenever necessary.
