How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Nurul's participation could possibly cause an upset

In my humble opinion, direct election has its advantages and disadvantages. It is a bold move by any political party to introduce the system because of its unpredictability and the fact that it is beyond the control of any senior party leader or leaders. There is often a certain order or hierarchy in any political party which could be based on a combination of factors like being founding members, leaders' seniority, capability, personality and so on.

In the case of Nurul Izzah, she is also known as 'Puteri Reformasi', an icon of popularity which cannot be easily dismissed. I can imagine the scenario when there could be actually more people voting for her than established leaders, simply because of her popularity! This would definitely upset the normal order of things, rightly or wrongly, depending on how we look at it.

When I was in Form 5, a classmate suggested that we nominate each other for the post of House Captain. For those who knew me then, nobody would ever think I could win in that election because I was a quiet boy, shy and not a sports person! Yes, I won the election to be the first ever non-participating House Captain, which House nearly became Champions too! The objection by another classmate (academically better than me) was telling. He told the House Master, Mr. Amos, that it wasn't fair because most of those who voted for me were from Forms 1 and 2 and that they didn't know who they were voting for! Of course, Mr. Amos overruled his objection. I did not realize then that I had a 'friendly face' which appealed to those younger boys!

Nurul will not stand a chance. Azmin will make sure she is not qualified to contest the Deputy's post.
