The Promise which we have been waiting for...

but will Najib honour this promise?

This is the most important promise which we have been waiting for. Prior to this, we kept hearing of 'Janji ditepati' or Promises are honoured, but never about giving his promise on peaceful transition of power. Now that he has said it, all of us should hold him to it.

But already, there are skeptics, because BN, and particularly Najib, are not known for keeping their promises. Even before GE, there were rowdies causing trouble at almost every ceramah held by Pakatan. The slow reaction from the police left no doubt about who they were. We have yet to see what is going to happen when this Mother of all GEs goes through campaigning, during voting and after the results are known.

Anyhow, Najib is better known for being an opportunist as exemplified by the following joke which tickled Kee Thuan Chye:

A pretty little girl named Suzy was sitting on the pavement in front of her home. Next to her was a basket containing a number of tiny creatures; in her hand was a sign announcing "FREE KITTENS".
Suddenly, a line of big cars pulled up beside her. Out of the lead car stepped a grinning man. 
"Hi there, little girl, I'm the leader of the Barisan Nasional, Najib Razak. What do you have in the basket?" he asked. 
"Kittens," little Suzy said. 
"How old are they?" asked Najib. 
Suzy replied, "They're so young, their eyes aren't even open yet." 
"And what kind of kittens are they?" 
"Barisan Nasional supporters," answered Suzy with a smile. 
Najib was delighted.
As soon as he returned to his car, he called his PR chief and told him about the little girl and the kittens. 
Recognising the perfect photo opportunity, the two of them agreed that he should return the next day and, in front of the assembled media, have the girl talk about her discerning kittens. 
So the next day, Suzy was again on the pavement with her basket of "FREE KITTENS."
When Najib's motorcade pulled up, this time followed by vans from Bernama, Utusan Malaysia, TV3, etc. Cameras and audio equipment were quickly set up. Then Najib got out of his limo and walked over to little Suzy.
"Hello, again," he said, "I'd love it if you would tell all my friends out there what kind of kittens you're giving away."
"Yes, sir," Suzy said. "They're Pakatan Rakyat supporters." 
Taken by surprise, Najib stammered, "But ... but ... yesterday, you told me they were Barisan Nasional supporters!"
Little Suzy smiled and said, "I know. But today, they have their eyes open."

Patrick Teoh in Facebook: 'If Barisan Nasional loses the 13th General Election they will make a damn good Opposition man. They will know and be able to spot all the tricks known to politicians and civil servants. Pakatan Rakyat will have a tough time if they want to cheat. The Opposition will be on their asses. All the time. Hey! Isn't that a great thing?'

Below is a letter to Malaysiakini which I think should be a wish which we hope for and welcome by us all:

mahashitla Actually, we, the rakyat want to see the GE as a 5 year nationwide carnival, where both parties hold their ceramas peacefully, attended by voters and supporters in their relaxed holiday atmosphere. And whichever party win, the loser party will concede defeat graciously and congratulate the winner, just like in the US. This is not happening because we have been ruled by a single party for 56 years and it is using undemocratic means, such as Project IC, a tainted electoral roll and an uneven level playing field, such as media coverage etc. To Umno it is do or die, and with Mahathir still around calling the shots, anything could possibly happen for he doesn't want to lose. As long as Umno-BN continues to rule, we can never get to feel that 5 year carnival for each of us to choose our winner and we must make it happen sooner rather than later.
