How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Who will pay your hospital bill? Try my B-i-l...

A man suffered a serious heart attack while shopping in a store. The store clerks called 911 when they saw him collapse to the floor. The paramedics rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he had emergency open heart bypass surgery.

He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at The Catholic Hospital. A nun was seated next to his bed holding a clipboard loaded with several forms, and a pen. She asked him how he was going to pay for his treatment.

"Do you have health insurance?" she asked.

He replied in a raspy voice, "No health insurance."

The nun asked, "Do you have money in the bank?"

He replied, "No money in the bank."

Do you have a relative who could help you with the payments?" asked the irritated nun.

He said, "I only have a spinster sister, and she is a nun."

The nun became agitated and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God."

The patient replied, "Perfect. Send the bill to my brother-in-law."

It's 2012 and it's the Olympics in London .

A Scotsman, an Englishman and an Irishman want to get in, but they
haven't got tickets. The Scotsman picks up a manhole cover, tucks it
under his arm and walks to the gate." McTavish , Scotland ," he says,
 "Discus" and in he walks.

The Englishman picks up a length of scaffolding and slings it over his
shoulder." Waddington-Smythe , England " he says, "Pole vault" and in
 he walks.

The Irishman looks around and picks up a roll of barbed wire and tucks
it under his arm. “O'Malley, Ireland " he says, "Fencing."

Meanwhile...

A young girl started work in a village chemist shop. She was very shy about having to sell condoms to the public. The owner was going on holiday  for a couple of days and asked her if she would be willing to run the shop on her own. She had to confide in him her worries about selling the contraceptives.

"Look," he said. "My regular customers don't ask for condoms, they'll ask for  a 310 [small], a 320 [medium] or a 330 [large]. The word condom won't even be  used.

The first day was fine but on the second day a coloured guy came in to the  shop, put out his hand and said "350"..

The girl panicked. She phoned the owner on his mobile and told him of her  predicament.

" Go back in and check if he has a yellow bucket hanging between his legs"  her boss told her.

She peeped through the door and saw the yellow bucket hanging between his legs. "Yes "!!!! she said " He's got one hanging there"....!

The boss said "Go back in and give him £3-50......................He's the Window cleaner"!!!!

LKS is one up on Dr Mahathir

No, not because he was once Mr. Opposition, nor that he had tasted hospitality in Kamunting.

It is simply because he has a son who is a Chief Minister, of Penang!

For now, Tun Dr. Mahathir can only hope that his third son, Mukhriz, can be Menteri Besar of Kedah: if he wins his state seat (if given the chance); if BN wins Kedah; and if he is proposed as the MB! There are so many 'ifs' which might not happen, or beyond even Tun's control!

"Jun 29: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he would support his son, deputy International Trade and Industry minister Mukhriz Mahathir, if the latter was named as a Menteri Besar candidate if BN wins back Kedah.

“If he is proposed as the Menteri Besar (Kedah), I will support,” Mahathir told an interview today.

Mukhriz, his third son, has been speculated to contest a state seat in the next general election..."

Comment in Malaysia Chronicle disappeared!

This morning I posted a first comment critical of Ali Rustam in MC and it was published. I have just checked and it has disappeared!
http://www.malaysia-chronicle.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=35769:moving-up-or-running-off-i-would-love-to-move-to-federal-govt-ali-rustam&Itemid=2

Either it was taken off by MC editor or a BN cybertrooper managed to take it off (if so, well done!). I have not been commenting in websites which did not publish my comments, so this will be another one of those if it happens again. I find it better to give my two-cent's worth in my own blog (guaranteed to appear) and linked it to the article. I will try and recall what I have commented early this morning (just before 8 am).

Ali Rustam's decision to move to federal level (presumption of a Ministerial post) could be embarrassing if Pakatan were to win. This reminds me of the dispute by Gerakan leaders in Penang over who should be Chief Minister, and they were routed instead!

Earlier, Nizar has confirmed his decision not to stand for parliamentary seat and concentrate on winning Perak. In his case, unless Pakatan wins at federal level, he is just forgoing being MP for another term.

As for development in constituency under DAP in Malacca, BN has vested interests in doing so. First of all, it was to show their apparent generosity (even magnanimity?) in distributing development funds, but they actually had control of the funds despite it being won by opposition. It is a known fact that dishing out development contracts is BN's way of pleasing their local leaders, usually at higher costs than actual. This reminds me of a comment heard on a nomination day in Batu Gajah, Perak: 'What's so difficult about spending money? It is like being given money to go and buy things in the market.' I wish to add, 'and getting rich in the process.'

That was the gist of my comment which was deleted in MC. Of course, it is impossible for me to recall exactly what I had commented.
