How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Reprieve from TM (?) while being throttled by Maxis

About 2 months ago, I decided to cancel my TM Wifi package (but retain my home land line) to try out Maxis Home Wifi.

Since the cancellation, I was worried when I received the TM bill relating to the house phone only, because of a line rental charge which seemed to suggest Rm1 a day! Today, I received the latest bill which excludes charge for 'tambahan setiap 0.5 km' which I presume relates to the line rental charge before. It would be presumptuous of me to think someone in TM read my blog post and decided to waive that. But whatever the reason, it is now reasonable for me to continue having the land line. I was prepared to negotiate for this had I been charged more, with the 'threat' of cancelling TM service altogether.

Meanwhile, for the past week, I was using Maxis under their 'throttling' service when my monthly quota plus my top-up of Rm30 were used up. Each time I switched on my notebook, I had to reply to a request for top-up, either from Maxis.com.my or Mylaunchpad. Well, I had to go through the experience before I can write about the experience. It is also a chance for me to wean myself off internet, with my self-imposed budget limit for a month.
