Thank God Telekom is no longer a monopoly (but still is, in terms of fixed or land lines).
At this moment, since Jan 13, all I had from Telekom was a telephone call from a technician on Jan 16, and nothing happened.
Someone from the bank called on Jan 13 morning when I was out at the coffeeshop. Asked rather suspiciously why nobody at home, but our trusty cleaner actually took the call. Was I lucky the telephone line was ok when she called? She would have been more suspicious if the line was off and she thought the telephone number given was not my actual home number.
When I got back to use the notebook, I could not access any site, not realizing the line was disconnected because of poor wiring and the cleaner had pushed the mop too hard against the socket, which has been out of its place in the wall for a number of years. Tried myself to fix back the wire that came off but still no dialing tone and any call to the number gave a ringing tone but no sound from the telephone set.
Same afternoon, I borrowed phone shop's fixed line to call 100 to lodge a complaint with Telekom. Nothing happened, called again on Jan 14 and was told 'repairs in progress' and I would not know how true that was. Jan 15, still no change and no call from Telekom to inform about repairs being done, how would I know if they are actually working on it? What's the big deal? As I have mentioned, it was ok until I realized one of the two wires came off. Sigh.
Jan 16 (fourth day), complained about the lack of action (reason still given as 'in progress', how convenient an excuse) and that I had waited in the house for most part of the past 3 working days in case someone comes to check the wiring. In the afternoon, a call from Telekom man asking whether my phone socket has a light? Was that meant to be a joke among technicians? Again, nothing happens probably 'still work in progress' and I am supposed to believe that.
At the time when I am waiting for email replies as well as follow-up replies about certain matters, I feel being knocked out of action and certainly out of momentum. As for the blog posts, I managed to post two using someone's Streamyx line.
Telekom staff still has the government employees' mentality of 'don't worry, be happy' because no matter how bad the business, the government will rescue. Why try so hard to please the customers? What can a customer providing a measly revenue do to a giant corporation?
If not because the fixed line is useful (much cheaper) for my children to call from overseas, I would have no hesitation to terminate the line immediately. So, in a way, they are still holding the trump card and can afford to be lax and lazy.
