How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Displaying your political affiliation

As the saying goes, 'There are many ways to skin a cat'.

Therefore, there are many ways to support a cause or political party, for instance, without having stickers on your cars, on your house fencing, or in your websites or blogsites.

But, of course, finally it is still up to the individual to customize within his or her own comfort zones.

There are those who wish to advertise their credentials on their calling cards while others try their level best to avoid. Similarly, some even avoid leaving their club membership stickers on the car windscreen to prevent disclosing their information to undesirable people.

I have just had a discussion with a professional singer who wishes to be less active in party activities because he feels it is restricting his market unnecessarily because of the political divide.
To be honest, even though my petition to KTMB was supposed to be on my own private initiative, I did feel uneasy when approaching people who are obviously on the other side of the political divide. Being sensitive, even perceived resentment or plain unfriendliness had been a hindrance to what could have been an apolitical initiative.

There are many stories of how certain employees were discriminated by their employers, based on information in websites, blogsites, and especially those social networking sites like Facebook.

The following story seems so real and the decision could have been done even without a formal letter, with the employees wondering what hit them and feeling none the wiser:

Letter from The Boss

Dear employees:

As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barack Obama is our President and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to increase by about 10%. But since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off sixty of our employees instead. This has really been bothering me, since I believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who would have to go.

So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lots and found sixty 'Obama' bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks will be the ones to let go. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem.. They voted for change, they should get it.

I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.
