"The Defence Ministry is now responsible for overseeing Sabah east coast's 1,400km coastline previously under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM).
Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Sabah's waters, now monitored by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), would be the responsibility of his ministry and the Malaysian Royal Navy following the new directive.
"I received this command last Friday in a letter from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the minister responsible for the MMEA..."

Many people have complained about the 'conspicuous absence as well as deafening silence' of our Defence Minister during the first few weeks of Sulu 'invasion' of Lahad Datu, Sabah. With the latest report, it would seem his hands had been tied because it was not under his jurisdiction then. But I am sure most people would question why our Defence Minister is not in charge of Malaysia's overall defence. With such an awkward chain of command, I dread to think what could happen if really invaded by aggressive foreign armies.
