A friend who is seriously looking for the ultimate, yet reasonably priced, who has been following most of the latest news on IT gadgets has this to say:

Ok, a dear friend emailed a link detailing the workings of the keyboard docking unit to the mobile tablet of Asus eeePad Transformer.

The tablet itself has an embedded battery of 8 hrs, and the keyboard docking station its own battery of 8 hrs too, making a total of 16hrs.
When I was in S'pore, we saw this Transformer but the keyboard docking unit was unavailable then. We wanted to find out if the USB port on the keyboard dock can accommodate an external USB harddisk of 120GB or more. The salespeople told us NO, and some unsure But we were not convinced, hoping to find more.
[You see, I told my daughter that it's high time for her to replace her current Notebook with a tablet, a more IN-THING now. She said she will if she can find one that can handle all storage requirements, namely her USB external harddrive of movies, songs, photos, documents and whatnots. Her apartment buddies and her have 4 Notebooks in their apartment, and it's so impractical for IT-inclined people nowadays. With tablets, it's so convenient as tablets are much lighter than Notebooks to lug around. With Android, it's even better as it's a whole new world with Google.]
With the tablet docked onto the keyboard, the whole system behaves like a Notebook. Since microSD cards can only handle upto 32GB, some 64GB altho' 128GB microSD will be out in the future and will be expensive, the current and popular external USB harddrive is the norm, with capacities upto 1TB. And a lot of us are using external USB harddisk drives for storage of movies, songs, documents, apps and such, way over the usual 32GB limit. Thus our hunger for knowing if this transformer can handle it
Well, the video in the link below, confirms that the Asus eePad Transfrormer can INDEED handle it, and even uses the USB to charge a mobile smartphone, like a powerpack, or connect to it as usual to backup stuffs from the smartphones. This makes the Transformer the most desirable tablet round today, even more the the iPad2.
It also has apps to do prouductive work, like SpreadSheet (Excel), PowerPoint, etc. even tho it's not Windows 7 powered but Android HoneyComb powered.
I'm definitely interested in this 16GB Transformer selling then in S'pore at S$699 (Rm1,680) tablet alone, and keyboard docking another S$100(Rm241). Of course, this Transformer also comes in a more expensive form, a 32GB version.
The only thing I do not like about it is its embedded battery, but then to look really slim and good, they have to embed the battery. At least, unlike the iPad2, if its battery goes, you can still retrieve all its info and continue to use it while docked onto the keyboard unit. And when everything has been backup and erased, you can then send the mobile tablet in to Asus, for a battery replacement. So not everything is LOST immediately. Asus has a winner here, just like their new coming Asus EP121 running on Windows 7, for those Wndows diehards.
So those of you waiting to get tablets for their kids' college, this Transformer even tho it's not Windows driven but Android, is a good consideration. It's definitely much cheaper than the Asus tablet EP121, and most Notebooks selling nowadays.
