How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

World Milk Day 2010

Instead of welcoming the full page advertisements by Dutch Lady and Marigold in The Star yesterday and the distribution of 250,000 packs of free milk as mentioned in the former's advertisement, I feel they should have reduced their milk prices instead.

Yesterday, I was at a Tesco supermarket, looking out for fresh milk and was really disappointed at the ever rising prices. Eg. its own brand fresh milk was selling at Rm5.29! Not so long ago, I used to be able to get it at Rm4.79 and before that Rm4.19 and so on. We used to be able to buy Dutch Lady fresh milk at around Rm3.00 but that seemed so distant now. Yesterday, it was Rm5.49 at Tesco. Sometimes, if lucky, there are some at clearance sale within a few days expiry at between half to two-third of normal prices.

Again, not so long ago, YB Tony Pua pointed out the scarcity of real milk because what we get are mostly Evaporated Creamer instead of Evaporated Milk, Condensed Creamer instead of Condensed Milk, because it was a way of side-stepping price controls because of rising costs of milk.

Yet, we have money spent by milk packers and distributors running into hundreds of thousands to publicise the drinking of milk! I wish they would pass on those money spent on reducing the prices instead.
