How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

The 'Star' acronym for Suara Tunku Abdul Rahman?

This morning, at our favourite breakfast coffeeshop, Foo Kee (a name which makes heads turn when you mention it each time) in Batu Gajah Perdana, a retired teacher, Michelle came in with her son and two young ladies.

She came over to say hello to us and later David went over to their table. He came back and said, ‘her son’s girl friend is a journalist from The Star who interviewed my son, Colin Wong last year.’ These days, we cannot trust each other’s memory as when he came back, the name mentioned was ‘Josephine’ yet the last write-up on Colin was by a Fintan Ng’ – not really sure if he was referring to the same person. Colin Wong, is the eldest son of David, who is one of those millionaires who left Google, despite their dream job working conditions, pictures (below) of which I have recently received from another friend.

A quick Google search for 'Colin Wong' shows the following:

Prosperati founder and President
Lack of funding hampers ICT growth write up in The Star by Fintan Ng, Dec 22, 2007

ZoeCity, A Seattle-Based Company, Officially Launches Social Network For The Christian Community ,March 19, 2008

But the irony of it was David does not use the internet! So he misses out on his son’s IT fame and had to rely on newspaper reports.

So, in the company of the father of someone who used to be in charge of Google’s Adsense, you can imagine my embarrassment when Michelle came over before she left, “I was telling the young ones that probably you internet-savvy older folks might know if The ‘Star’ is an acronym for ‘Suara Tunku Abdul Rahman’.” It was actually news to me. I replied acronyms can mean anything, to which she agreed. But I have heard of SuaraAnum (founded by Nik Nazmi) being speculated as Suara Anwar before.

Just by the way, a look at some pictures of Google's working environment:

Decompression (stress) capsule that is impermeable to sound and light ....
A slide allows quick access from different floors. There are also poles available .. they are similar to the ones used in fire stations.

Food. Employees can eat all they want from a vast choice of food and drink
Work Station: Each employee has at least two large screens. There are 4-6 'Zooglers' per office.
INOVATION: Large boards are available just about everywhere because 'ideas don't always come when seated in the office' says one of Googles managers.
LEISURE. Pool tables, video games etc. are available in many areas.
Communication... On each floor, there are private cabin areas where employees can attend to personal affairs.

Technical Support: Problem with your computer ? No problem ...
Bring it to this area where drinks are available while it is being fixed ....
Health: Professional masseurs (eusses) available.
REST .... This room provides massage chairs that you control .... while you view relaxing aquariums ... !!!

Thanks for the response. At least I know you read my blog.

Please tell him that he forgets after a few steps from the other table, especially in the company of ladies.
