How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Teresa's mum relates horror detention

I am sure any mum would be able to empathise with Teresa's mum since her most unfair and cruel detention under the ISA. It was so easy - just accuse and arrest. When BN cannot deal with legal means, arrest without reason or trial is most convenient to deal with political opponents. What else was new? When my friend texted me about Raja Petra's arrest, followed by Tan Hoon Cheng and then Teresa Kok, I asked him 'Who's next?' He innocently replied, 'don't know'! Of course, I did not expect him to know, just my way of expressing frustration over the high-handed arrests. Imagine, 3 police cars to arrest a much respected 3-term MP who happened to have obtained the biggest majority in the last general elections. Did they expect her to use kungfu to prevent arrest? Shame on the police and Al-blur.

When Teresa announced her intention to lead a trade delegation to Taiwan from October 12 till October 18, I was toying with the idea of joining - imagine the chance to join an official trip to Taiwan! Not that there were places available because I did not check it out. I used to say if I were to make a choice between China and Taiwan, I would choose the latter because of the Hokien dialect being widely spoken there and I am illiterate in Chinese. The reason I did not bother was the scheduled return of my wife's trip from UK on October 13!

Anyway, there was talk about her detention for 28 days. Come to think of it, was it planned to scuttle her planned trip? I would think so. I believe Pakatan leaders are more acceptable to some foreign investors and if successful, it would reflect badly on the BN leaders.
