It was late afternoon and I was waiting in a car on a road which is perpendicular to and between Jalan Bijeh Timah and Jalan Bandar Timah in Ipoh. A woman walked past our car to the back and suddenly I heard a scream and I saw a motorcyclist accelerated past after narrowly squeezing through some passersby. As more people came out from the shops to find out what happened, I saw two policemen walking the beat along Jalan Bandar Timah was told what happened. Someone gave the registration numbers to the policemen and one of them immediately telephoned to inform his colleague at control centre to look out for the motorcycle. Of course, if pre-meditated, the criminal would have used a false number plate. If not, chances of finding the culprit should be good, especially with their access to JPJ records.
I am comparing this quick action to the time when we lost a vehicle in Ipoh a few years back. We were hoping the police could keep a lookout when we realized the theft within half an hour, but we had to report at a police station first, which took up another 2 hours (including travel time).
