How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Was it a pleasant memory?

At a Senior Center in Boca Raton, Florida, USA, to prevent Alzheimer, seniors were asked to create something from memory, ... and this apparently, was one of them!

A scientific explanation on Government...

Governmentium

Research has led to the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Bad police image...

An analogy of how some people could make use of police with ease...

A beggar to another beggar: I had a grand dinner at Taj yesterday.

How? The other beggar asked.

First beggar: Someone gave me a RM 100 note yesterday. I went to Taj and ordered dinner worth RM 1,000, and enjoyed the dinner. When the bill came, I said, I had no money.

The Taj manager called the policeman, and handed me over to him. I gave the RM 100 note to the police fellow, and he set me free.

Compare that with a real situation as reported in The Star :

Court orders investigation of false reports and theft of drugs

The word that inspired Namewee...

'Kuku' in Bahasa Malaysia means 'fingernail', so was it so objectionable as to cause uproar and protests which made an unknown rapper by the name of Namewee a household name? Incidentally, surname Wee is funny to the English because to them it means 'piss', but we cannot please everyone, can we?

To the Chinese speaking Chinese, 'kuku' or more specifically 'kuku chiau' in a 'mother to child talk' refers to the little birdie, as exposed in this picture (apology to the kid, but thanks to the owner of the picture).

So, as it happened, one thing led to another and Namewee became not only a household name but icon to one group and object of hate to another.

When we analyse the many cases of authors and cartoonists who got into trouble with the authorities, one thing stood out - they became more famous as a result! They should thank the narrow-minded Home Minister and his sidekicks for their relentless support!

Lesson on direct translation from Bahasa Malaysia to English

this could be made up, but still funny:

It reminds me of a joke (Chinese version) which my father-in-law shared with my son:

Police: Apa nama? (What's your name?)
Chinese man: Babi Enam (Hakka name: Chu Luk which translates as Pig Six)

Police: Apa kerja? (What's your occupation?)
Chinese man: Kereta tiga (directly translated from Chinese 'Cheh sam' for a person who uses a sewing machine, but which sounds like 'car three')

Police: Pergi mana? (Where are you going?)
Chinese man: Ayam belakang (directly translated from Hakka 'kai mui' which sounds like 'back of chicken' but in this case, the 'kai' refers to 'road' instead).

Now we know why 1Malaysia is so difficult!

Police: Tahu apa salah? (Do you know what's your offence?)
Chinese man: Kencing longkang ( or urinating into the drain).
