How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

The Mother of all video clips... judge for yourself

Sorry folks, as expected, it was taken off the link below which I discovered this morning.

It should be somewhere in cyberspace but it is not worth my trouble to look for it again.

I was going to add:

This is part of a video clip shown to a select group of people at Carcosa Seri Negara recently. The police have confirmed the video as genuine, as in unedited, and whether the man in the video was Anwar could decide if he is fit to become Prime Minister of Malaysia! My verdict is it is unfair to him and the man looks too fair to be him!

We have seen rehearsal of the forthcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and the actors chosen were so striking in resemblance that it could have fooled many people if not told about it.

Umno had dissociated itself from the production and showing of the video, but it would not be convincing without the full force of law on those responsible.

For a picture of the now missing video clip and report on PKR's stance on it:

EC disallows Mafrel in Sarawak state election

"According to Bernama, the Election Commission (EC) has decided not to give accreditation to Mafrel (Malaysians for Free and Fair Elections) to be an independent observer in the Sarawak state election, polling of which is to take place on April 16.

EC secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria is reported to have said that this was because Mafrel had failed to fully comply with EC's requirements. "Among them is for Mafrel and its affiliates to be non-partisan in their work," he said in a statement."

"How will electoral fraud and abuse take place in Sarawak? Some of the most prominent forms include the following:

Manipulation of voter registration and postal voters
Polling arrangements
Vote counting/tabulation/reporting
Biased electoral authority
Dispute adjudication
Media coverage
Misuse of resources
Vote buying
Voter intimidation and/or obstruction
Candidate intimidation and/or obstruction
Legal framework

Finally, this list includes the blocking of observer access to the voting process – a measure which is right now being implemented by the EC."

More where that came from:

Monitoring the Dirtiest Elections Ever
by Dr Lim Teck Ghee

The facts gathered by Dr. Lim would have refuted Nazri's claim that our elections were fair because opposition won some seats (in 2004) or opposition won more seats (in 2008). With fair elections, opposition could have won more seats in 2004 and could even have won at federal level in 2008.

EC should have allowed Mafrel and let the public judge their observation and opinions instead of disallowing them from the outset, which leaves a bad impression on EC. The public would perceive that the Commission has something to hide instead.

Hello Willie! Wish you were here...

An old fella was celebrating 92 years.

He spoke to his toes. "Hello toes!" he said. "How are you? You know, you are 92 Today. Oh the times we've had! Remember we walked on the park in the summer every Sunday Afternoon. The times we waltzed on the dance Floor? Happy Birthday toes!

"Hello, knees," he continued. "How are you? You know you're 92 today. Oh, the times we've had! Remember when we marched in the parade? Oh, the hurdles we've jumped together. Happy Birthday, knees.

"Then, he looked down at his penis. "Hello Willie! You little bugger. Just think. If you were alive today, you'd be 92!"

Royal Ball Off! Read all about it!

An 11 year-old newspaper vendor of Cape Town, in South Africa, sold the most newspapers over 12 month period and was rewarded as a first prize a one week stay in a London hotel.

The second day in the hotel the lad was so bored that just about everyone noticed it. Some one telephoned the Daily Mirror. The Mirror reporter interviewed the lad and published a photo and a story about the lad being bored to death with his first prize.

The manager of the Mirror decided to change all that by offering the lad a job to sell the Mirror.
The lad gladly accepted. After his first day he came back without selling a single newspaper.
The Mirror's manager wanted to know how this was possible. How could the lad have sold the most newspapers in Cape Town, yet he could not sell a single paper in London.

The lad explained that he did not have the answer either. He was shouting the paper's name, like he was used to do in Cape Town: "Mirror, Mirror!" Daily Mirror!", but no one bought a paper.

The manager then explained that things are done a bit different in London. In London the newspaper vendors pick themselves a story on the front page and then shout the headline. That is how it is done in London.

The next day the lad was selling newspapers at a horrific rate, outselling all other vendors. The manager and the editor decided to go and have a look.

On a street corner they found the lad shouting: "Prince Charles castrated, Prince Charles castrated!" And people were buying papers like crazy.

Both the manager and the editor realized that the Mirror was heading forbig trouble, so they jumped out of their car, grabbed the boy and pulled him into the car. Both wanted to know
how on earth the lad could shout such things on street corners.

The lad explained: "Well, you said I must pick a story on the front page and shout its headlines."
"Yes," said the manager, "but where the hell do you see such a story on today's front page?"
The lad replied: "Look, here it is, it says: 'Royal Ball Off'!"
