Bayi forwarded to me the following report. This Japanese man is a true hero indeed. But what caught my attention was that he saved his wife, then his mother! Fortunately, he saved both lives, otherwise he might have to live with the thought of whether he had made the right decision in a classic situation of 'wife or mother'!


This is Hideaki Akaiwa. When the Tsunami hit his home town of Ishinomaki, Hideaki was at work. Realising his wife was trapped in their home, he ignored the advice of professionals, who told him to wait for the army to arrive to provide search and rescue.

Instead he found some scuba gear, jumped in the raging torrent - dodging cars, houses and other debris being dragged around by the powerful current, any of which could have killed him instantly - and navigated the now submerged streets in pitch dark, freezing water until he found his house. Swimming inside, he discovered his wife alive on the upper level with only a small amount of breathing room, and sharing his respirator, pulled her out to safety. If he had waited for the army, his wife of 20 years would be dead.

Oh, and if that’s not enough badassery for one lifetime, Hideaki realised his mother was also unaccounted for, so jumped back in the water and managed to save her life also. Since then Hideaki enters the water everyday on a one man search and rescue mission, saving countless lives and proving that two natural disasters in a single day - and insurmountable odds - can’t stand in the way of love. This man is my hero.

Maybank's online trading: new security features...

seem to have a distinct disadvantage...

To register one has to choose an icon from several provided; then one has to choose 3 questions from those provided, as additional security in case the bank need to verify later. So far so good. But I have noticed each time I chose some favourite stocks for easy monitoring, they are not saved for the next time I visited the site. I experienced the following:

1. I opted to register instead of later. I visited the real time site and left. I discovered the next time I visited it, my original lists of favourites were gone. I could use it after registration, for once only. I presumed it was because my lists were under the old system.

2. I logged on another time and saw the icon which I chose for the first time and visited the real time site, and selected my lists of favourite stocks. Again, the next time I visited it, my lists of favourites were gone.

My question: Is the new system supposed to automatically delete such lists upon exit each time?

If so, I am afraid it has become more troublesome instead of being more convenient with new features. I do not understand why the additional security features should affect this part of the system.

Update April 9, 2015:
Must admit the above information had been outdated for some time since I posted. Recently, I used Internet Explorer for Maybank online trading and I could retain my previous list of Favourite stocks for subsequent log-in.

2000 vs 10,000 post mortems

Just watched biased TV3's Nightline news. Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who is acting for MACC was seen giving a statement that 3 pathologists (two local and one from Britain) have pointed towards suicide. He highlighted the British pathologist's credentials as impeccable, with experience of more than 2,000 post mortems. But I have just read Malaysia Chronicle's write-up on Pornthip's more than 10,000 post mortems!

I feel MSA was too quick to pass judgment while the RCI is still on, and especially when Dr. Pornthip has yet to provide her opinions. This is another example of how our mainstream media serves as tools of propaganda for vested interests.
