How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

The versatile supermarket trolley...

On Saturday, as we were coming out of the main road of Bandar Utama, we saw a trolley left on the pavement of the road leading to Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong! My immediate thought was that it is so easy for someone to just put it on to one of those twin-cabbed pick-up trucks which are so common these days... after all, the trolley is so versatile!

The Magic Pied Piper

A Malaysian tourist walked into a Sydney antique shop. He noticed a very life-like bronze statue of a rat. It was so striking that he decided to buy it.

He took it to the owner and said: 'How much is this bronze rat?'

The owner replied: 'It's $12 for the rat, and $100 for the story.'

The fellow gave the owner his $12 and said, 'I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story!'

As he walked off down the street, he noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the drains and begun following him.

He started to walk a little faster, but within a couple of blocks, the swarm of rats had grown to hundreds, and they were all squealing and screeching in a very menacing way.

He increased his speed and ran on towards Sydney Harbour and as he ran, he looked behind him and saw the rats now numbered in their MILLIONS, and they were running faster and faster.

By now, very concerned, he ran down to the pier and threw the bronze rat as far out into the water as he could. Amazingly, the millions of real rats jumped into the water after it, and were all drowned.

The man walked back to relate all this to the shop owner, who said, 'Ah, you've come back for the story then?'

'Hell no!' said the Malaysian, 'I came back to see if you've got any ... bronze Malaysian Politician?'

In common with a Chief Minister...

must be in the minds of ordinary folks upon seeing this picture. Instead of the Milo, I would be having 'basumal teh' or milky tea made from boiling fresh milk. Others might be having 'roti canai' or 'dosai' or 'chapati' instead of the 'nasi lemak' which Nik Aziz is having.

His unassuming and humble image is not a 'one-off' for the cameras as is often the case with pretentious politicians of Barisan Nasional. This is the part which is actually unnecessary for someone of his position but if he is more comfortable that way, why not? It is definitely more endearing to the people which explains why he is so popular and influential as a 'Tok Guru' among the Malays in general.

Coming close, in my opinion is the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng. He can be very comfortable having breakfast in an ordinary coffee shop without pre-visit preparations done as is common with BN bigwigs.

A message from the sponsor...

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large raging, violent river.

Needing to get to the other side, the first man prayed: 'God, please give me the strength to cross the river.'

Poof!!!

God gave him big arms and strong legs... and he was able to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that, the second man prayed: 'God, please give me strength and the tools to cross the river.
'
Poof!!!

God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs... and he was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed: 'God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the river.'

Poof!!!

HE WAS TURNED INTO A WOMAN!!!

She checked the map (was it Google? ... using iPod? ... no, these are red herrings I put in), hiked one hundred yards upstream... and simply walked across the bridge!

Guys, if at first you don't succeed, do it the way your wife told you!
