Some pictures of India

Oh my Inglish!

Nothing wrong with this English...

except the owner?

This must be the most pathetic event! With an audience of one, even the loudspeakers are spared...

This hot kid has a head start in IT...

Are gorillas and men the same?

A married couple at the zoo walk past the gorilla enclosure.

Says the woman, 'Mark, do you know gorillas are the only animals which resemble men in their behavior? Look, since no one's around and looking, I'll expose one of my breasts to it and see how horny it gets just as men do.'

Mary then exposes one of her breasts and, sure enough, the gorilla gets excited and grabs the bars of the enclosure and shakes them as if it wanted to break out

'See...' says the woman, 'That's why you react the way you do. Men just can't control their animal instincts - just like gorillas!

Says Mark, 'Ok, now expose both breasts and let's see what happens...'

The woman exposes both her breasts to the gorilla and it gets very excited and desperately tries to break out of the enclosure.

'That's incredible!' says Mark. 'Now, pull your down your jeans, turn around and expose your butt and let's see what happens...'

The woman pulls down her jeans, turns around with her butt to the gorilla, which by now is extremely aroused. It breaks out of the enclosure, grabs the woman and starts yanking off her clothes...!

The woman yells, 'Mark, what should I do now? HELP ...!

Mark replies, 'Now, tell him you have a headache. Let's see if gorillas and men are really the same!'

Why MAS continues to lose money

Most of us would assume MAS could not be profitable because of having to do national service for Ministers and their families, continue to fly to destinations which are unprofitable, purchases of goods and services at higher instead of competitive prices, and so on.

MP for Wangsa Maju, Wee Choo Keong has posted in his blogsite, details of free First Class travel for two of MAS's former directors from KL to London at Rm37,349 each!

More instances of abuse of privileges...

When your durians fall into someone's land...

how would you feel?

This must be the most relevant question which Felda settlers should bear in mind, when considering the so-called 'durian runtuh' or windfall, as announced by PM.

Most of us guessed as much that the whole exercise would benefit the promoters, which should include Umno the party, PM and Felda Chairman, the professionals involved in the listing of shares, and so on. But as to how much the settlers will be getting, in relation to others, we have yet to know until now...

Wong Chen, a relatively unknown until recently, has come out with some telling figures which show how much the Felda settlers are being taken advantage of by others...

FGVH Shares Allocation: Unfair to settlers; fantastic to employees and rich Bumiputeras

Keadilan eagerly awaits the launching of the complete prospectus on the IPO of FGVH by the Prime Minister on Thursday 31st May 2012. Come Thursday, we will all finally get to know how many shares Tan Sri Isa Samad will get. As a preview to Thursday and staying on the subject matter of shares allocation, we will like to expose to you the following disturbing facts.

Twelve days ago we exposed that settlers “durian runtuh” windfall represents a mere 9% of FELDA’s total gains from the IPO. Today, we will provide our comments on the 2.2 billion FGVH shares offered for sale. The breakdown of the shares allocation is as follows:

General public73 million shares (2% of FGVH)
Institutional investors (EPF, PNB, Tabung Haji, Louis Dreyfus)1.5 billion shares (41% of FGVH)
FELDA employees109 million shares (3% of FGVH)
FELDA settlers91 million shares (2.5% of FGVH)
MITI approved Bumiputera investors420 million shares (11.5% of FGVH)

The manner the shares are allocated raises two important questions:
Question 1: Why are settlers (numbering 112,635) getting less shares than the 3,835 employees of FELDA? Assuming a 100% take up rate, each settler will only get 810 shares whereas each employee of FELDA will get 28,368 shares. This effectively means that an employee of FELDA is being offered 35 times more shares than a settler.

Question 2: More alarming is the MITI approved Bumiputera share allocation of 420 million shares. Who are these special Bumiputeras that deserve 4.6 times larger allocation than all the settlers collectively? What have they ever done to help develop FELDA? We do not know their identity but we know that under MITI’s official guideline, to be a Bumiputera investor approved by MITI, you must first be very rich. The guideline says that in order to qualify as a MITI approved Bumiputera investor, an individual must have at least RM3 million in assets. If the investor is a company (100% Bumiputera owned), it must have assets worth RM10 million. As such, we demand that MITI produces a complete disclosure list of the rich Bumiputera investors and beneficial owners of this IPO. We demand this list because the settlers have a right to know why these rich Bumiputeras are many many times more deserving than them. We demand to know how many rich Bumiputeras will be allocated shares compared to 112,635 settlers. Since this IPO is of great national importance, we believe that the public also deserves to know if any of these rich Bumiputeras investors are linked to UMNO.

Putting things in proper context, I would like to remind all that FELDA was set up to help the landless Bumiputera poor. In addition, the PM has announced that the FGVH IPO to be an exercise that will greatly benefit the settlers. The way the shares are allocated clearly shows that the PM is more interested in helping the rich. In conclusion, we urge PM Najib to withdraw the undeserving rich Bumiputera allocation and give it to the settlers. We also ask the employees allocation to be appropriately reduced in favour of settlers.

If this is not robbing the poor to benefit the rich, I do not know what is. I believe this scheme could well backfire on PM and BN in the coming elections.

Is it gut feeling or are we being alarmist?

With the BN, there is no shame nor guilt in being a bully (BN stands for Buli Nasional?) or being blatantly corrupt or just shooting themselves in the foot.

PM, DPM and other Ministers often make stupid  or different statements which are confusing to the people. We cannot take any statement at face value, regardless of the person making it, the source of information or the medium it was carried. We have to wait for further statements, to be sure, but then again we are likely to be more confused by contradictions and even lies.

But the recent rushing of various Bills of Parliament, way past midnight (which required the stopping of the clock!) when there were less than 50 MPs around, takes the cake. The unholy haste showed their malice. One of them, concerns website owners and even bloggers like me. Basically, they have changed the law to presume us guilty unless we can prove our innocence, which is a total reverse of our original law which presumes us innocent unless proven guilty. The only good thing (if we can call it as one) is that any unknown blogger will get instant fame as a result of being charged for any such offence. By then, reaching over a million visitors for a blogsite will be guaranteed!

Black day for Internet users:

Probable scenarios of GE13?

The great Tun Dr. M, with all his wisdom, said that the opposition would not accept losing at the next general election and would create trouble by blaming it on the election process. But isn't it obvious BN is now on the defensive with all kinds of unkind actions, and unfairly drafted Bills of Parliament, rushed through at unearthly hours, to the extent of stopping the time? We should be prepared for likely actions of a sore losing BN instead...
"So don’t think for a second that the opposition PKR-DAP-PAS can form the next federal government even if they could somehow get the numbers to do so. The coming election results may be blacked out, telecommunication services will be jammed the same way it was done during the Bersih 3.0 rally, ballot counting rooms may lose power suddenly leading to chaos, losers from Barisan Nasional will be declared winners by the election commission despite objections, DDOS attacks intensifies, opposition candidates go MIA and whatnot. Even if the above fails, the palace may be guarded by thousands of police (and army?) toprevent opposition from delivering their winning tickets to the King to form the next government.
Najib administration will emerge from the palace as the new government even if they don’t have the numbers. To hell with democracy and foreign criticisms – there’s no way Najib administration will handover the government simply because the stake is too high. And if the attempt to form government fails, the sore loser may declare emergency..."

Which country does not make sense?

Someone has prepared a long list of questions which start with 'Which country...' and the answers all point to 'but Malaysia'. How could we have accepted such nonsense for so many years, if not for our ignorance, indifference and 'tidak apa' attitude? All Malaysians who are concerned about our country's future should read this list and decide for themselves whether we should make a stand for change...

Chinese education: government's hypocrisy

Education is very important to any individual, but because the decision is normally made by parents, how they decide can well shape his or her future and destiny.

My parents had no formal education but somehow my father, the decision-maker, decided that all sons should study in an English-medium school and all daughters in a Chinese-medium school. The most obvious effect of siblings who were taught in different languages, was the frequent quarrels over whether to listen to the English or Chinese section of Rediffusion!

Today, it is common to notice students speaking mainly Mandarin (if from a Chinese school), Tamil (if from a Tamil school), Bahasa Malaysia (if from a national school), and English (if from a private or International school), with some variations and exceptions. Those who speak English are likely to have parents who speak English at home, regardless of race or type of school, and so on. The choice of TV channels are likely to be based on their preferred language, almost to the exclusion of others. With Astro and DVDs, some ignored national channels totally, including the news.

The problem with national schools is the deterioration of standards because of nationalistic aspirations, inept ministers' frequently changing policies, biased civil servants in the ministry, poorly trained teachers, and so on. Among non-Malays, one of the reasons for not choosing national school is the Islamization and overzealous teachers who do not respect other religions. Even Muslims themselves face problems created by some of their colleagues.

Basically, I believe in the freedom of choice, initially by the parents and later, by the students. But, the decision would depend on the availability of sufficient choices to suit the needs of the people, the market and the country. Ultimately, it would depend on whether the parents can afford according to student's choice. It would have been easier if we cater according to the demands of the market, but politics, race and religion would, as we have witnessed, complicate matters.

As is typical of BN leaders, what they say is different from the actual policy or how each policy is being carried out. We know of justice, equality, freedom of speech and so on, but we also know we do not get them. While we have racialist parties like Umno, MCA and MIC to look after their racial interests, we also know Umno makes all the important decisions and MCA and MIC exist in name only, to reflect some semblance of multi-racialism in the ruling coalition.

To the ordinary folks, despite having MCA to look after Chinese interests, why are the Chinese schools decreasing in numbers? Logically, with increasing population and increasing demand (even from non-Chinese), Chinese schools should be increasing in numbers instead of decreasing.

Dr. Kua Kia Soong has the statistics and explanation in his letter published in Malaysiakini:

http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/198788

Highlights from his letter:

"More Chinese and Tamil Schools in 1957

For the uninitiated, at Independence we had 1350 Chinese primary schools, more than 800 Tamil primary schools and 78 Chinese secondary schools.

Today, with our population doubled, there are only 1285 Chinese primary schools, 550 or so Tamil primary schools and 60 Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (MICSS).

In fact when the Education Act 1961 was legislated, the number of Chinese secondary schools shrunk to just 14 because the rest had to give up their mother tongue education system since they could not survive without government aid. From the Seventies, the number of MICSS grew steadily to sixty.
The most obvious question Malaysians might want to ask is, how did the education policy and Education Act 1961 allow the number of MICSS to grow to sixty between 1961 to 1980?

The next obvious question to ask is: how did the policy and the law suddenly insist that there cannot be one more MICSS once the sixtieth school had been built by the end of the Seventies?

Before the 1996 Education Act, the mother tongue lobby had protested against Section 21(2) of the 1961 Act which stipulated that the Minister of Education "may at any suitable time convert all national-type primary schools to national primary schools."

When the 1996 Education Act came in, as expected, Section 21(2) of the previous law was no longer there. However, under section 17.11 of the new law, all schools in the National Education System had to use Bahasa Malaysia as the main medium of instruction. (Note that under the 1961 Act, only primary schools were affected.)...

Double standards over English-language schools
The recent proliferation of international schools in this country and their liberal enrolment of rich Malaysian students also make a mockery of the government's claim to implement a National Education Policy (specifying Malay as the main medium of instruction) for all Malaysians.
Why does the English-language have priority over the mother tongue of Malaysians?
If the government can allow hundreds of institutions in the country to use the English language, what is the problem with allowing one more MICSS school in which BM and English are compulsory subjects?

The contributions of MICSS to national development
The 60 MICSS have been surviving all these years through the support of the community which subsidizes their tuition fees. Although the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) is recognised round the world, our own government still refuses to recognise it.
Despite being treated like step children, graduates from the MICSS have been contributing to Malaysia's development and growth. The inventor of the thumb-drive is a product of the MICSS and he has since come back to invest in this country.
The Chinese community has been paying double taxation while also nurturing these 60 schools since they have been forced to be self-financing."

I have selected a few short quotes on the importance of education by famous personalities:

  • Aristotle
The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.
  • Benjamin Franklin
Genius without education is like silver in the mine.
  • Helen Keller
The highest result of education is tolerance.
  • Victor Hugo
He who opens a school door, closes a prison.
  • Nelson Mandela
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
  • Ralph Waldo Emerson
The secret in education lies in respecting the student.

Mom, I just asked a simple question...

... the dad gives a gift to the mom?

Dad does a special thing with mom...
He takes his special thing and puts it to... mom's special place.
This makes mom very happy...
and then dad gets very happy and then there is an explosion.
Dad has a lot of seed and these race to see which is first to reach mom's egg...
This is called making love.
And until you did that, you are called a virgin.

Last answer to become instant millionaire...

will you be bothered how you arrived at it?

Mick, from Dublin, appeared on 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'  and towards the end of the program had already won 500,000 euros.

"You've done very well so far," said Chris Tarrant, the show's presenter,

"but for a million euros you've only got one life-line left, phone a friend. Everything is riding on this question. Will you go for it?"

"Sure," said Mick, "I'll have a go!"
"Which of the following birds does NOT build its own nest?
a) Sparrow;
b) Thrush;
c) Magpie; or
d) Cuckoo?"

"I haven't got a clue," said Mick,
"So I'll use my last lifeline and phone my friend Paddy back home in Dublin."

Mick called up his mate, and told him the circumstances and repeated the question to him.

"Fookin hell, Mick!" cried Paddy."Dat's simple it's a cuckoo."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm fookin sure!" said Paddy.

Mick hung up the phone and told Chris, "I'll go with cuckoo as my answer."
"Is that your final answer?" asked Chris.

"Dat it is."

There was a long, long pause and then the presenter screamed,
"Cuckoo is the correct answer! Mick, you've won 1 million euros!"

The next night, Mick invited Paddy to their local pub to buy him a drink.

"Tell me, Paddy? How in Heaven's name did you know it was
da Cuckoo that doesn't build its own nest?"

"Because he lives in a fookin clock!" replied Paddy.

Kids' innocence can be so hilarious

'Our Father, Who does art in heaven,

Amen.'

'And forgive us our trash baskets
as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.'

A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they were on the way to church service,
'And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?'
One bright little girl replied,
'Because people are sleeping.'

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.
'If Jesus were sitting here, He would say,
'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said,
'Ryan, you be Jesus !'

A wife invited some people to dinner.
At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said,
'Would you like to say the blessing?'
'I wouldn't know what to say,' the girl replied.
'Just say what you hear Mommy say,' the wife answered.
The daughter bowed her head and said,
'Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?'

Granny's target: justice for her granddaughter

Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle, 81, was so ticked-off when two thugs raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting ex-cons down... And shot off their testicles.
"The old lady spent a week hunting those men down and, when she found them, she took revenge on them in her own special way," said Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp.
Then she took a taxi to the nearest police station, laid the gun on the sergeant's desk and told him as calm as could be: "Those bastards will never rape anybody again, by God."
Cops say convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the hotel room where he and former prison cell mate Stanley Thomas, 29, were holed up.
The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas' testicles to kingdom come, but doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said. "The one guy, Thomas, didn't lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he won't be using it the way he used to," Detective Delp told reporters. "Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they're just happy to be alive after what they've been through."
The Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row.

"When I saw the look on my Debbie's face that night in the hospital,
I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself 'cause I figured the Law would go easy on them,"' recalled the retired library worker.
"And I wasn't scared of them, either - because I've got me a gun and I've been shootin' all my life.
And I wasn't dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed about owning one."
So, using a police artist's sketch of the suspects and Debbie's description of the sickos, tough-as-nails Ava spent seven days prowling the wino-infested neighborhood where the crime took place till she spotted the ill-fated rapists entering their flophouse hotel.
"I knew it was them the minute I saw 'em, but I shot a picture of 'em anyway and took it back to Debbie and she said sure as hell, it was them," the oldster recalled...
"So I went back to that hotel and found their room and knocked on the door, and the minute the big one opened the door, I shot 'em right square between the legs, right where it would really hurt 'em most, you know. Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up pleading to me to spare him. Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in."
Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the vigilante granny. "What she did was wrong, and she broke the law, but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison," Det. Delp said, "especially when 3 million people in the city want to nominate her for Mayor."

Time to laugh at some students' expense

Sometimes we have to be cruel in order to get people to correct their mistakes. If these examples were repeats, then they are worth repeating because of their humorous value, esp in our local context.

Q. In a democratic society, how important are elections?
A. Very important. Sex can only happen when a male gets an election.

Q. What is the most common form of birth control?
A. Most people prevent contraception by wearing a condominium.

Q. What is artificial insemination
A. When the farmer does it to the bull instead of the cow.

Q. How can you delay milk turning sour?
A. Keep it in the cow. (Simple, but brilliant.)

Q. What is the fibula?
A. A small lie. (This person has a career in politics!)

Q. What is a turbine?
A. Something an Arab or Shreik wears on his head.

Khairy vs Rafizi: PPE vs ACA; macro vs micro;...

besides, Umno vs PKR and hopefully, Najib vs Anwar in a similar debate.

Khairy has the advantage of having been de facto Finance Minister, and some say, even de facto PM, from 2004 to 2009. He should have all the information at his fingertips, and together with his PPE degree from Oxford and his experience as a tv presenter, such a debate should have been easy for him.

But what a surprise he got from Rafizi, a relatively unknown corporate man with a chartered accountancy qualification. He was well prepared with facts and figures and with his accounting and auditing experience, he was convincing in his presentation and rebuttal. Since joining PKR, he would have had much experience in Selangor state administration and gained much knowledge in national finance at federal level as well, though without the kind of power and access to information which Khairy had at one time. But generally speaking, when it comes to accountability, accountants should have an advantage. There were many without proper knowledge and yet commenting on accounts which showed they could not tell the difference between sales revenue and profit, or profit and cash flow, for example. Khairy took a cheap shot at Rafizi by quoting Arthur Andersen's auditing fiasco in Enron's case. This is like saying since Dr. M was a dictator, all doctors will become dictators!

I was actually surprised at this well organized and moderated debate, unlike the biased one, when Dr. Chua Soi Lek debated with Lim Guan Eng in Mandarin.

Rafizi questioned Khairy about the Rm270 billion taken from Petronas during Pak Lah's time, when he was personally involved. He avoided answering the question twice. This was just one of many failings of BN which made Khairy appear on the defensive. The other was Umno's preference for mega projects which were padded with excessive profits for party or personal gains. Rafizi explained that without corruption, PKR could finance free education easily.

As the moderator, Dr. Mazlee said, we hope to be able to witness a grand debate between PM Najib and Opposition Leader, Anwar.

It is a pity the authorities are using their powers to silence their critics. For example, Rafizi is being charged under BAFIA rules and now Anwar, Azmin and Badrul are being charged for their involvement in Bersih 3.0 rally. BAFIA and OSA are two specific Acts of Parliament which seem to protect corrupt activities and discourage whistleblowers.

Najib vs Anwar : dealing with Hecklers and Harassers

It had to do with politics, nothing to do with Ketuanan Melayu.

Our PM had to deal with a handful of hecklers at an event in London recently. The hecklers chose a wrong time to do so. If they expected others to support them, they were disappointed. Most of those present were organizers and invited guests. If students or government officials, most of them were ferried from all over UK, at our government's expense. Our Malaysian High Commission would have ensured nothing embarrassing would happen, or at least, not prolong.

As a comparison and contrast, I re-visited my letter to Malaysiakini, five years ago. In the case of an event involving Anwar (with several international personalities), Malaysian student organizers were given a hard time by our Malaysian Students Department.

My letter to Malaysiakini in 2007...
Don't patronise our varsity students
http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/65157

Last Sunday, at Seri Iskandar, I noticed a big poster of our Menteri Besar with big letters screaming out 'RAKYAT TIADA DIPINGIRKAN' (if I remember correctly) which means 'the people won't be left out'  (if I understand it correctly). My immediate reaction was my imaginary 'HANYA ORANG YANG SOKONG PEMBANGKANG' or 'Except those who support the Opposition' which should follow.

There is no change at all, as far as our political situation is concerned, the latest being Anwar, Azmin and Chegu Bard being charged for being involved in the recent Bersih 3.0 rally.

By the way, Rais can really count! He said there were only 22,270 participants at the rally and not as claimed by the organizers and the opposition. Just looking at the figure, I can tell him not to bullshit with such an accurate figure. Probably he should be counting rice instead.

Mark Zuckerberg changed his status on Facebook

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg updated his status to "married" on Saturday.
Zuckerberg and 27-year-old Priscilla Chan tied the knot at a small ceremony at his Palo Alto, Calif., home, capping a busy week for the couple, according to a guest authorized to speak for the couple. The person spoke only on the condition of anonymity.
Zuckerberg took his company public in one of the most anticipated stock offerings in Wall Street history Friday. And Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday, the same day Zuckerberg turned 28, the person said.
The couple met at Harvard and have been together for more than nine years, the person said.
Zuckerberg designed the ring featuring "a very simple ruby," according to the person.
The ceremony took place in Zuckerberg's backyard before fewer than 100 guests, including Facebook's chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg.
The guests all thought they were coming to celebrate Chan's graduation but were told after they arrived that the event was in fact a wedding.
"Everybody was shocked," the guest said...

It was also the first time I got to know Jon Bon Jovi the pop star. Never mind the fact that 'everybody in US knows Jon' said Bill Clinton in an interview. He complimented Jon as 'having great personality, great music and great stage presence' or something to that effect. When asked whose job was better (President of US or Pop singer), Jon said his was better because 'I get to keep the house and the plane'!

Well, again I chanced upon this tv program on CNBC (I forgot about the channel for months!) and saw this handsome man who looks like Jon Bon Jovi. It was about Soul Kitchen, and I had to watch more before confirming that it was him. According to his website, http://www.jonbonjovisoulfoundation.org/ , JBJ Soul Kitchen is 'a community restaurant without prices on the menu' and...

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN SERVES UP NUTRITIOUS MEALS FOR ALL; ACCEPTS BOTH CASH & VOLUNTEER HOURS AS PAYMENT
(October 19, 2011 – Red Bank, NJ)
Jon Bon Jovi today announced the opening of the JBJ Soul Kitchen in Red Bank, NJ to a crowd that overflowed the gardens and parking lot at the “community kitchen,” which redefines how the issue of hunger can be addressed. With no prices on the menu, the Soul Kitchen serves meals to customers who have earned them through volunteer hours. The Soul Kitchen operates as a program of the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation and is sustained by cash payment from customers who are able to pay the suggested donation (or even a little more).
According to Wikipedia, Jon Bon Jovi is already 50 this year! He is ever so youthful...

For DIGP's info on burger protest

Most people who read the news about Deputy IGP's statement that the burger protest in front of Ambiga's house had not broken any law, knew it could not be true, though it would be difficult to quote any by-laws without doing some research.

As expected, according to a Malaysiakini report, at a press conference with other Pakatan representatives, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said,

"he could find no law that allows the ‘burger protest’ in front of Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga’s house, but has instead found three laws that render such acts illegal."

He quoted Section 46 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act that bars the placing of “obstructions” in public places, with a penalty of a fine up to RM500 on the first offence.

He added that according to Section 110 of the Road Transport Act, anything placed on a road or interfering with the flow of traffic shall be liable of a fine not exceeding RM1,000.

Lim (left) also quoted Section 80 of Local Government Act that compels local authorities to take action to “remove, put down and abate” public nuisances.

A comment found in Malaysiakini adds to it:
Odin In addition to MP Lim Lip Eng's input, here is another piece of information that shows the bias against Akka Ambiga. According to FMT's report posted on 16 May, lawyer K Shanmuga has said that the protesters violated the Licensing of Hawkers and Stalls (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 1989. The by-laws stipulate that hawkers are allowed to operate only at certain locations, that DBKL does not issue roving licence, and that bylaw 11(1) states that a stall licence should be in respect of a specified site, while by-law 22(2) states that itinerant hawkers cannot remain stationary in any place except when selling food. FMT has sent an email to DBKL regarding this matter, but no response has been forthcoming. That's only to be expected, isn't it?
