Dr Chua Soi Lek will not be contesting in the general election, thus becoming the first MCA president not to be fielded.

MCA is seen as increasingly irrelevant because of its race-based platform; being ineffectual in carrying out any meaningful reform; and obviously subservient to Umno. As a component party within BN, it is deemed complicit in all the wrongs master-minded by Umno. Certainly by being silent is taken as acquiescence and there is not much good in all talk and no action.
