MSM vs Internet: who is telling the truth?

It is surprising that the mainstream media editors (despite their reach and influence) are trying to discredit internet news, particularly those by individuals. Of course, the lack of control is the main reason for all kinds of sensationalized news, some of which were blatant lies by individual bloggers. But with the biased news reports coming from the msm, which were proven time and again, even in the courts, the editors should look at themselves in the mirror before criticising others. I am sure by general consensus, online news portals like Malaysiakini and Malaysia Today, have more credibility than mainstream newspapers like The Star, NST and Utusan.  

We often refer to those bloggers paid by Umno as cybertroopers, so it is strange that this term is used against anti-establishment ones as well. Zorro Unmasked prefers his work to be described as cyber networking instead.

'The credibility of the mainstream media can only be regained by discrediting the social media and attacking political cybertroopers, a senior journalist claimed.

"The rise of cybertroopers have made the social media unreliable. Cybertroopers are liars, thus making liars out of social media," said English-language daily The Star’s executive editor Wong Sai Wan at a forum in Kuala Lumpur today on the new role of media in the coming national polls.

"This is our only way of regaining back our credibility. Our job is to get this word out.

“Social media does not provide information, it’s (a form of) entertainment. We must be on the attack," stressed Wong, who is also very active on social media microblog, Twitter.'

This picture of a recent collapsed flyover is a good example of how the news can be twisted beyond belief...

Facebook, a social networking site, is now a firm favourite place to exchange news and information. I wish I can freely post the funny pictures created and shown in FB: that of Ultraman fighting with his opponent which caused the collapse; that of a big fat cat with Umno logo sitting infront; that of someone informing boss that the Road to Putrajaya is now damaged, implying Pakatan's plan is now destroyed; and so on.

A newspaper was quick to describe the bridge is owned and managed by PKNS, implying with intent to discredit the present Pakatan state government of Selangor. As more news about it was known, it seems the bridge was built sometime in 2007 (when Selangor was still under BN) and the road unused since 2009 because of poor soil condition, mainly because of peat.

Thanks to real-time internet news, the public is now able to gain access to more reliable sources of news, instead of relying on the traditional mainstream media. That the editors of msm are feeling insecure is a good sign. Shouldn't they try to be more responsible for their news instead?

Update: I just cannot resist this...

Surely we know this is a digital creation to poke fun at BN in general (Satu lagi project BN), Rosmah in particular. Nobody in his or her right mind would take this seriously as a lie instead of a joke.
