The other day, I mentioned to a couple of friends who are into buying 4-D lotteries. In West Malaysia, there are 3 companies offering 4-D, plus other lotteries every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. In addition, there are occasional Special Draws on Tuesdays. Therefore, if anyone has a 4-digit number which he thinks is likely to strike, he has to buy the same number at all the 3 different outlets. Usually, a punter has more than one set of numbers, and also likely to buy more than the minimum Rm1 for each.
Anyway, for anyone buying 4-D numbers for Saturday, he is likely to include the same sets of numbers for Sunday as well. I suggested to my friends that if they really have faith in their choice of numbers for Saturday, then they should not buy the same for Sunday at the same time. To me, it is being defeatist and pessimistic even at the time when they should be optimistic and full of hope.
The other day, someone was relating an incident about an octogenarian lady who wanted her equally old husband to accompany her to the toilet. Her relative commented that she should have brought her walking stick as she had earlier suggested. Her reply was most surprising: 'The walking stick is for old people!' Now that was really something which reflected her optimism and feeling young at heart!
Coming to politics. DAP's advisor, YB Lim Kit Siang has asked a number of times, for firm commitment from Umno that they will honour the election results of the forthcoming General Election if Pakatan Rakyat were to win, and that they will hand over power peacefully. His concern is real, and I am sure many peace loving people feel the same, especially when there were already incidents which reveal the unsporting spirit of the ruling coalition in trying to hang on to power. In a way, Pakatan leaders in general, and LKS in particular, must be feeling very optimistic about their chances of winning the GE and forming the next federal government.

For all the hype about 'Janji ditepati' on National Day, Najib has failed to commit himself to this simple but very vital promise. If there is no promise, then he has nothing to fulfill, which must be his excuse. But what a letdown by the incumbent PM.
