Windows... opening to harassment?

Since my recent system crash and re-installation  using built-in tools provided by Asus, I was quite happy using my Windows 7 Starter... until I tried to open a PPS file which I couldn't. I was led to download the required software and ended up with a warning that my Windows is not genuine! First of all, I can live without opening any PPS file. So I wish I could get back to my original state. But IT is so dynamic that every now and again one is posed with the question whether to update. To update, I am likely to get into trouble, and not to update also seems to raise suspicions that I am using a counterfeit system.

I also made a mistake by downloading Windows Office, thinking it was part of the Windows 7 Starter. It has the effect of transforming my text and spreadsheet files held under Open Office into that of Windows, creating confusion as to whether to keep in original data format or new. In fact, for simple text, I would prefer using Wordpad, without all the extra features for editing.

Now, it is a matter of time before my system will crash, thanks to the ever vigilant Windows cyber troopers.

I wish life can be simple without the continuous updates of new features which complicate matters to old folks like myself.
