What good is BAFIA under 'MAFIA'?

Last night on TV news, Chairman of the Association of Banks, Wahid Omar quoted S. 49 which was displayed on the screen for all to read, and emphasized that confidentiality or secrecy in banking matters cannot be compromised. But to the ordinary man in the street, what good is upholding something which could hide massive corruption, frauds or even cheating? If BAFIA helps in covering up serious crimes in financial matters, then it is time the Act should be revised and changed to provide for whistleblowers who had the information and wish to publicise it.

It is all well and good for PM Najib to say that the person should report to MACC http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/205422, but we all know how selective it could be.

Bank statements, for eg., could be found in rubbish dumps, thrown as rubbish by bank customers who did not realize the significance of its secrecy. It means nothing to those who know nothing about the owners.

So far, action against Rafizi under BAFIA brought him fame beyond his wildest dreams, with accolade from all quarters, except those connected with BN. What does that tell us? Only PM seems oblivious to the need for more transparency and accountability. To add to the increasing number of self-praises, he has added one which considered Malaysia as the best in economic planning or something to that effect. It is crazy beyond belief that we have such different and even opposing opinions among politicians. Our country's national debt is now over Rm450 billions and still increasing, and one man owed over Rm34 billions because of his seeming monopoly on privatization. Best in economics? We can't even compete with the red dot in the south which has no natural resources other than human.
