A political joke... relatively speaking...

An aide to the former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the Imam of the surau at Permatang Pauh.

He told the Imam that Anwar Ibrahim would be attending the next day's prayer service, and he asked if the Imam would kindly point out Anwar to the congregation and say a few words that would include calling
Anwar a saint.

The Imam replied, "I don't think so. I don't really like the man, and there are issues of conflict with the religion over some of Anwar's views."

Anwar's aide then said, "Look, I'll write a check here and now for a donation of $100,000 to your Surau if you'll just tell the congregation you see Anwar as a saint."

The Imam thought about it and said, "Well, the Surau can use the money, so I'll work your request into tomorrow's sermon."

As Anwar's aide promised, Anwar Ibrahim appeared for the Friday worship and seated himself prominently at the forward left side.

As promised, at the start of his sermon, the Imam pointed out that Anwar Ibrahim was present.

The Imam went on to explain to the congregation, "While Anwar Ibrahim's presence is probably an honour to some, the man is not numbered among my personal favourites. Some of his most egregious views are contrary to tenets of the religion, and he tends to flip-flop on many other issues..... He also has a reputation for shirking his Parliamentary obligations both in Kuala Lumpur, and in Permatang Pauh. The man is simply not to be trusted."

The Imam concluded, "But, when compared with Prime Minister Najib, Anwar Ibrahim is a saint ."
