What I have learned in a couple of days

That I had a problem when looking at Q-signs and going to the right counter. Thinking back, I got it wrong once at Hong Leong Bank, confusing a Q number with the counter number. More recently, I saw counter 3 and assumed counter 4 to be the one on the right, but both the Post office and BSN named their counters from the right!

That my daughter looked forward to us receiving her at the airport, despite her fairly frequent use of airport taxis at company's expense. She was actually disappointed when her mother did not turn up with me as she expected this time!

That I am finding it wasteful eating at expensive restaurants, especially in the company of family members and close relatives when there was no need to. Perhaps, I am too used to cheap and good food in Perak! I felt this when a sister-in-law treated us to lunch recently at Canton Fare in Solaris; and last night, when my son decided to have dinner at Vietnam Kitchen at Jaya 33 when it was pouring and it was to save us from getting wet! I decided to cancel a lunch date with friends, partly because of that. I wasn't the one paying, in case anyone reading this think I felt the pinch.

That the problem with the occasional auto-gate breakdowns was due to a faulty receiver because water seepage caused a part of the circuit-board to short-circuit. The signs were first noted months ago when button 1 could not be used and only button 2 used for opening and closing. Then the remote control could not operate after a heavy downpour, but the switch in the house could. Then even the switch could just open and close only a couple of feet in distance! The remote controls could operate the next morning, presumably when the circuit board was completely dry! For those interested in knowing, cost of replacing a receiver was Rm280, and cost of replacing a broken plastic cover for the motor was Rm80. I had a bad experience with the original installer. He came and took away our so-called faulty motor and wanted at least Rm700 to repair it. He did not return the motor! I had a new motor installed for Rm900. Can I be blamed for suspecting he made it a 'win-win' situation for himself?

That the LRT uses a plastic chip as a cheap alternative to the card as ticket. I had to ask a fellow traveller how to use the coin to get in, and wondered how when I wanted to get out. Walking towards the exit, I had enough common sense to see a sign for chip to be dropped in to open the turnstile!
