Christmas dinner for old folks in Pusing

For the past few years, we had been attending Christmas dinner for old folks at the Dewan Dato Cheah Fah. This year I went alone. I met one of the committee members (of Pusing Thong Yin Benevolent Association) and asked if any local politicians were invited. He replied none, and emphasized that they tried not to touch on politics. But from past experience, DAP representatives were invited when Pakatan was in power in Perak, then MCA representatives when BN was in power. So I had my doubts.

Anyway, this year, there were no elected representatives present, though there was an Indian representing an elected representative which I did not bother to find out who. But there was an MCA politician, Loh Kwee Peng (?) JP, who seemed to be in the limelight on stage at every photo session. Towards the end, a committee member announced that there was a shortfall of Rm1,527 arising from the total expenses of Rm37,350 exceeding total receipts of Rm35,823, as shown in the accounts made available to all, together with details of donors and other relevant information. Soon after, he made another announcement that the shortfall had been covered by a donation of Rm1,600 pledged by MCA man, Loh. He was greeted with applause. I appreciate such generosity but wished he did not capitalize on it politically. So my doubts about the promised non-political nature of the event was not being too cynical after all.
