JAKIM's approved bakeries in Malaysia (those with Halal signs ) are now forbidden to sell 'hot cross' buns as this type of buns is considered religiously inappropriate for Melayu. Consumption of such buns might make Melayu less Islam.
They've removed the cross & replaced it with a rope design, that is only one line across the bun, and are now re-naming such buns...
"TALIBUNS"!
NB. I am not expecting anyone to take this seriously. Link
Was this announced in the mainstream media? like The Star newspaper? Or at least in any newsletter in Malaysia? Was just wondering...
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I honestly do not know, and I am surprised you have taken it seriously.
ReplyDeleteGoing by what we now get from the internet, we cannot take anything at face value, not even statements made by Ministers!
Anyway, just treat this as something created by someone, ridiculing Jakim's past high-handedness in treating such matters.
Its just a joke-lah. Making fun of JAKIM for its often paranoia way of handling matters.
ReplyDeleteCan't you see the pun/wordplay Talibun ↔Taliban. Paranoic Jakim wouldn't mix a Malay word "Tali" with an English word "Bun". Probably more likely from them are words like RotiGantung (ha ha ha :)) Also the word "talibun" actually already has a Malay meaning - its a kind of Malay poetry.
Have a great day.
Linda-its like the bacon that is now macon
ReplyDeleteBacon has become macon
ReplyDeleteThis action whether true or false by a Muslim nation is not at all surprising. I who worked in Saudi Arabia (1980's)saw some Mutawas force the KLM office to remove the cross painting from their emblem. And these nutcase Muslim Mutawas want to travel to all European nations. Shame on nations held to ransom by these Shariah Mutawas.
