YES but How?

YTL has already spent Rm2.5 billion on YES 4G, so we should be confident of its capability, claims and service. At the moment they claimed to have covered 65%, targetting 80% soon.

I put myself as an average customer in terms of knowledge in the use of mobile phone and computer, still grappling with many hi-tech equipment and uses available (too many to mention: eg. iPhone, Blackberry, tablet and so on) but reluctant to be caught in the rat race because of financial or other reasons.

As I have mentioned earlier, I signed up for YES despite knowing Batu Gajah has yet to have coverage. I know for a fact that they are in the process of putting up the necessary equipment on top of Telekom building and it is only a matter of months (hopefully?) that we will be able to enjoy this extra choice of telecommunication. The other problem I am facing is the need to upgrade my notebook! Minimum operating system required is XP Service Pack 3. I know many people would think I am so way behind that I should not be using YES. But there is always the YES Buzz phone which I would consider buying IF I am satisfied with the service. I am going to rely on dealers staff to convince me.

My recent visit to KL involved a hurried test using my YES dongle and a computer with Windows 7 OS, with the help of my IT savvy friend (but not yet a YES man). The result was disappointing to say the least. I could not even test the use of my dongle to make or receive call! You might say I am slow in the use of technology, but my friend? In other words, the YES system of 'internet with voice' is still not easily understood, not well explained, not user-friendly or whatever. The other point is that using YES to view Youtube might be impressive but when going into their website, it was like coming out of an expressway to a B road! Just imagine how I felt: having signed up, yet in a YES covered area (KL) and still unable to use it. The saving grace was that a few days later, my friend visited YES when they had Tan Sri Yeoh and brother around for an official launch. He was shown by a staff how to do it properly, which required activating YES Life.

I still believe YES has great potential, but they have to get over the steep learning curve of prospective customers before it can be a runaway success.
