How to prevent your vote from being traced

The following video shows a typical scene of voting in progress during an election. It is useful for first time voters to know what to expect, especially to bring along your NRIC. The purpose of the video is to educate the voters on how to prevent illegal ways of tracing which political party you voted for. This is especially important to those civil servants who have the perception that they might be penalized for voting opposition. Voting is supposed to be confidential, a vital ingredient to ensure freedom of exercising your right to elect whoever you think is suitable for any constituency.

The gist of the video is about the following surreptitious ways which would enable someone else to trace how you have voted:

1. Your IC No. written on voters list;
2. Your IC No. written on counterfoil or the back of ballot slip.

There is also the possibility that someone else had voted earlier on your behalf without your knowledge.

For any of the above instance you can object by complaining to the Election Officer on duty.

Be sure to watch the video to refresh your memory before voting...
and be sure to re-check that you are still registered and that there were no changes since your earlier check:
