'A great leader is not one who can talk or make wonderful speeches. It is one who is able to walk the talk or practice what he or she preaches. Talking is cheap. Anyone can talk. It is delivering what you say that really matters.'
At BN Convention on Sunday, PM Najib was seen delivering his speech like an actor well rehearsed according to script meant to portray good leadership, which I am sure Datin Seri must be proud of. Yet the reality outside, instead of song and dance, was a picture contrary to his 1Malaysia and his People First, Performance Now.
The Police, as usual, was high-handed in dealing with a peaceful demonstration before handing over a memorandum with a signature list to our King. Any demonstration by Federal opposition will be denied permit, thus the excuse to use FRU and water canons.
The demonstration was people's complaint against the Federal Government's preferred concessionaire which was chosen by the previous BN state government of Selangor. The present arrangement would blatantly enrich a few at the expense of many. Water is still cheap, but collectively it amounts to billions which could afford to pay the concessionaire's main shareholder a few million Ringgit a year in remuneration. What seems most unacceptable is that the company will be relieved from paying interest on the huge loans amounting to hundreds of million Ringgit, a liability to the government which in effect will be borne by the public.
