Pennywise Pound Foolish?

That seems to be the case with our BN government.

We were asked to change our lifestyles when he was DPM, and now as PM, he is considering cutting subsidies instead of defence expenditure, avoiding open tenders for huge capital expenditures, and so on. Yet MACC would go after Pakatan's much smaller expenditure to find faults, if not, at least harass routine administration.

Lop-sided contracts in favour of concessionaires would ensure increasing costs of road travel and transportation, energy costs and what not.

Commitments like PKFZ have shown how an initial cost of Rm1 billion ballooned to Rm4 billions and likely to increase to Rm12 billions! Almost like geometrical progression! How we wish our investments show such excellent improvements.

Now, we have just heard the cost of the new Palace has shot up from Rm400 millions to over Rm800 millions over a five year period, and if you have watched the Deputy Works Minister in Parliament, his reasons were hardly convincing as to why there was no open tender.

While the leakages are left unattended, and the excesses are being proposed, like the cost of building a new Parliament building in Putrajaya at Rm800 millions (already cynics have said it will at least double if indeed carried out and when completed), are the leaders trying to make the country bankrupt instead?

Ask anyone in the streets or in coffee shops, and they will say nonchalantly that 'big contracts mean big kickbacks, so necessary for money politics and buy-elections'. Sounds sensible to me.
