Making hay while the sun shines

The buy-elections, especially the more recent ones, have given rise to the people's realization that any by-election is good news to the local traders because of the influx of politicians and supporters; people who have been waiting for a long time since their applications have been submitted for various purposes; and generally voters who can expect at least small incentives of cash by the BN 'Santas'. Non-national schools, in particular, seem to be favourites as chosen beneficiaries because of their past neglect. Some have even joked about the 'benefits' of deaths at regular intervals, of MPs and ADUNs throughout the country!

With these happenings (the handing out of goodies) which are beyond our control, in mind, the recent speculations of impending downfall of Kedah and Selangor may not be such a bad idea after all! If a by-election can cost the BN Rm100 million, even though it is taxpayers' money, the direct benefit to the locals are most welcome. All these, because of the threat from opposition candidate vying for the seat. Now, if we were to multiply that by the number of seats in a state, then we could expect the people of the state to benefit in terms of billions of ringgit! Wow! That must be the quickest way to develop a state. So, can people be blamed if they are now thinking, 'To hell with those turncoats! Go on, be the cause of a state election and speed up its development in record time."
